Film4, the feature film division of Channel 4, has appointed Mubi executive Cate Kane to the role of senior commissioning executive. She will join the creative team in January and report to Farhana Bhula, director of Film4, alongside senior commissioning executive David Kimbangi.

Kane joins Film4 from Mubi, where she has been serving as co-head of global acquisitions since 2020, acquiring such titles as AftersunThe SubstanceMy Father’s Shadow, and The Worst Person in the World

Prior to this, she was head of acquisitions at Curzon Film for nine years, where her work focused on such films as Parasite45 Years, and Force Majeure. Kane has also worked at BBC Film, Casarotto Ramsay, and Content Film.

At Film4, she will play “a key role in shaping Film4’s slate, partnering closely with filmmakers to shepherd projects from early development through to production,” the company said. ” Her arrival signals Film4’s continued commitment to combining creative risk-taking with industry expertise.”

Said Kane: “Having collaborated with Film4 for many years, I’m over the moon to now join Farhana’s brilliant team and help build on their extraordinary slate. Film4 has always been the creative home for filmmakers that have inspired me, and I can’t wait to champion both established and emerging voices for audiences everywhere.”

Bhula lauded Kane as “an exceptional creative force whose instincts, track record, and vision perfectly align with the next chapter of Film4.” She added: “She has proven to be fearless in backing some of the most exciting new voices from the U.K. and is deeply committed to championing work that resonates with global audiences.”

Kane’s appointment comes following the news this week that four Film4-backed directorial debut films will receive their world premieres at Sundance 2026. They are Molly Manners’s Extra Geography, Rafael Manuel’s Filipiñana, Olive Nwoso’s Lady, and Joanna Natasegara’s The Disciple
