The retrofuturistic Yishun 10 mall is set to close in March next year.
Better known as GV Yishun among those who spent their childhood and teenage years in Singapore’s north, the suburban complex located at 51 Yishun Central 1 houses Singapore’s first multiplex cinema since its opening in 1992.
Building owner Frasers Property stated on Wednesday (Sept 2) that the four-storey building is expected to cease operations on March 2, 2027.
In response to AsiaOne’s queries, a spokesperson from Frasers Property said that tenants are expected to vacate by the end of March 1, 2027.
Yishun 10 will be redeveloped into a mixed-use complex comprising roughly 110 residential units, a landscaped facilities deck on the second floor and a retail podium at the street level.
The project is planned for launch in mid-2027 and completion in 2031.
Notable tenants at the mall currently include Golden Village, Arnold’s Fried Chicken and Sri Murugan Supermarket.
Frasers Property, which also operates the adjacent Northpoint City mega mall, will continue to run the redeveloped Yishun 10.
According to the developer, this will mark the first residential launch in Yishun Central in more than a decade.
In conjunction with the announcement, Frasers Property is launching the campaign Yishun 10 Memories as a way for the community to share their collective memories of the mall.
Led by consultants Studio Lapis, the intention is to keep and upcycle selected artefacts from Yishun 10, using them to feature community stories, artworks and interpretive murals within the future development.
Frasers Property is also inviting the public to share memories, photographs, memorabilia and other materials on Yishun 10 by emailing to yishun10memories@studiolapis.sg by Oct 31.
The developer said it is exploring other ways for the community to come together and celebrate their shared memories and experiences of Yishun 10 as well.
“Yishun 10 holds a special place in the hearts of many Singaporeans who grew up in its immediate community,” said Soon Su Lin, Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Property Singapore in the announcement.
“Through Yishun 10 Memories, we invite the community to share their stories, memories and experiences, as we embark on the next chapter of the Yishun Central site with a new mixed-use development that supports evolving lifestyle needs and aspirations.”
Frasers Property tells AsiaOne that more information will be provided when the project is launched.
