After the murder, Maria purchased two duffel bags, bedsheets, curtains, and a knife. She along with Matthew chopped Neeraj’s body into multiple pieces and placed them in the bags. The two cleaned the apartment to remove any evidence. Later, Maria borrowed a neighbor’s car and around 4:30 PM the same day, the two drove out of Mumbai. They bought petrol and set Neeraj’s remains on fire. Maria confessed her involvement in the crime and cops arrested her. Maria served a three-year sentence and Matthew was convicted based on her confession.
