In 2007, Sonam Kapoor made her Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariyaa. The actress featured with Ranbir Kapoor in the romantic drama. During the same year, Deepika Padukone made her Bollywood debut in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om. The musical reincarnation drama also featured Shah Rukh Khan and Arjun Rampal.
Back then, Sonam Kapoor was often compared with Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma and vice versa. At that time, size zero was a trend and Sonam revealed how both of them had a modelling background. Kapoor also stated how their height and weight made her stand out compared to actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji.
In 2022, during an interview with Vogue India, Sonam Kapoor was asked how she handled the pressure of the beauty standards back when she debuted. The actress answered, “Around the same time, size zero situation was happening. At the same time, there was Deepika, Anushka, they were all supermodels, who were debuting along with (me). They came from the modelling (background)…And I am tall. I am probably the same height as them, but I used to be 86kgs.”
On the work front, Sonam Kapoor was last seen in the film Blind (2023). The actress has taken a break from movies and is yet to announce any new project .
Sonam added, “Before that generation, there were Aishwarya, Sushmita, or there were really petite girls like Rani, Bebo, Preity. They were petite. They were 5’3″ or 5’4″. I was like this big 5’10″ girl. And fortunately for me, my family environment was so loving and gave me so much confidence.”
