Benny said: ‘She’d wake up, I’d have a pen out, and I’d write what was on her mind.
‘Then we’d go into the other room and create it, and it became a song.
‘It was such a cathartic and therapeutic experience.’

The new album is Selena’s first full-length release since 2021 when she released her Spanish EP, Revelación. The same year, Benny released Friends Keep Secrets 2.
Their album release comes after they confessed that Selena nearly ruined Benny’s very romantic proposal in December.
Selena and Benny announced their engagement in mid-December 2024, just before the holidays.
The happy couple appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, to promote I Said I Love You First.
Benny admitted the proposal was quite chaotic, admitting it was, ‘the scariest week of my life’ on the late-night talk show.
During the interview, Selena explained that she didn’t see it coming and nearly botched the whole thing as she wanted to stay home.
They were doing promotions for the album, and Selena admitted she wanted to push this particular shoot… which is when he planned to pop the question.
‘I woke up and I was very confused on what was happening on where we were going, because it seemed kind of far. So I’m kind of a little grumpy,’ she admitted.
‘I’m like, “I really am tired. This is too far.” So then I tell him, I say, “After this shoot, I’m gonna go hang out with my friends.” And he starts, I guess, going, “Uh, okay, sure. We’ll, you know, we’ll see you when you get here.’
When Jimmy asked Benny if he was, ‘freaking out,’ he confirmed, ‘Of course I’m freaking out! She was mad! She almost didn’t come!’
‘She was like, “I really don’t feel that well. I think I’m just gonna stay home today. Can’t we just make up the shoot another day?”.

The producer added he was, ‘trying to figure out a way to do it,’ and said ‘First of all, getting engaged to someone is the craziest thing in the world.’
‘It’s like, right before you’re gonna tell someone you’re gonna be married to them forever, they’re like, “Show me how good you can lie to me.” It’s the hardest thing. It’s so hard,’ he said to applause.
Benny added that the task was made even more difficult because ‘he tells her everything’.
‘So it was like, she was just upset with me because like, the day before, I was like, making bad lies’, he added.
