Patrick Mahomes vowed to return “stronger than ever” after suffering a brutal injury during the Kansas City Chiefs playoff-eliminating game Sunday,
After the Chiefs lost to the Los Angeles Chargers, officially taking them out of the running to make it to the playoffs or Super Bowl, the NFL star took to X and shared an emotional message.
“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts,” Mahomes, 30, began.
“But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever ⏰ ,” he concluded.
During his home game at Arrowhead Stadium, the quarterback was hit by a player and knocked to the ground. He stayed down for several moments before he was helped up and limped back to the sideline.
Their Sunday loss marks the first time since 2014 that the Chiefs won’t be in the playoffs. They have also played in the Super Bowl for the past two years — taking home the trophy in 2024 and losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025.
The Chiefs have three more regular games left in their 2025 season, with the next one being Dec. 21.
Hopefully, Mahomes is able to fully recover and finish out the season as he recently spoke about savoring the rest of the time he has playing alongside Chiefs tight end and best friend, Travis Kelce, whom he knows can retire at any time.
“Every season I’ve had with him these last few years, I try to cherish because you never know,” Mahomes admitted on Dec. 8 during a press conference following their tough loss to the Houston Texans.
“He got himself in great shape this year and he’s played great football,” he said of Kelce, 36.
“He’ll have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season, but I know one thing: He’ll give everything he has for the rest of this season to try to give us a chance to make a playoff run.”
He acknowledged the Chiefs’ struggles this season and said he knows “the chances are getting lower and lower.”
