Mohanlalal and Prithviraj Sukumaran‘s combination has worked once, again. Their latest movie L2: Empuraan – which had released in theatres on March 27, 2025 – has had a good start at the box office. This Malayalam action thriller has been directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and co-produced by Antony Perumbavoor and A Subaskaran. As the movie made it to the theatres, it started trending on social media thanks to positive reviews. Going by the box office report, it has managed to win several hearts. As reported by Sacnilk.com, L2: Empuraan starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran made around Rs 22 crore in India on its first day. It managed to mint double digit numbers and pave the way for a stronger first weekend. As per the report, the Malayalam version of the film made Rs 19.45 crore. The Kannada version earned Rs 0.05 crore while Telegu language made around Rs 1.2 crore. The Tamil language made around Rs 0.8 crore while the Hindi version made around Rs 0.5 crore. These are the early estimates and the final figures are yet to come in. In terms of occupancy, aread like Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kollam, Trivandrum and more registered the highest turnout.

The numbers are being termed as historic as L2: Empuraan has broken all the records set by any Malayalam movie. Earlier, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s movie The Goat Life held the record of highest opening day grosser. As per reports, it made Rs 8.95 crore net India business. The second on the list was Lucifer starring Mohanlal. The political action thriller made Rs 6.10 crore.

There has been a massive hype around L2: Empuraan and that has has significantly impacted its box office numbers. The movie now has a few days to mint money in Hindi belt. On March 30, Salman Khan’s movie Sikandar will hit the screens and give tough competition.
