After nearly a decade in the music industry and with their agency contracts set to expire this year, K-pop co-ed group Kard hope their legacy will extend beyond music and “remain a cherished memory” in their fans’ lives.
Somin, 30, and Jiwoo, 29, reflected on their journey in a recent interview with AsiaOne ahead of their Singapore concert. The group also include J.seph, 34, and BM, who turns 33 in October.
Besides the songs from their first full-length album Where To Now? (Part.2): Nowhere released in July, Somin shared that the setlist will also feature each member’s solo songs and a selection of fan-favourite hits from their career.
“We put together the setlist with a lot of care, so I hope everyone will enjoy the show and have a great time with us,” she said.
For fans seeing Kard perform live for the first time, Somin hopes they will savour every moment of the concert.
She said: “I’m especially looking forward to the moments when we can sing together and simply enjoy the show with all of you.
“Being able to make eye contact and share the same time and space together feels incredibly precious to me.”
The quartet concluded the European leg of their tour in Athens on Sept 17 and is set to take the stage in Singapore at Sands Theatre on Sept 27.
Somin recalled the members going on a run together in Europe, adding that it was “a really refreshing experience that became a great memory”.
Jiwoo also told us that while more co-ed groups may emerge in the future, she hopes that Kard will be remembered as a group that “represented the brightest days of our fans’ youth”.
She expressed her gratitude to Hidden Kard (fandom name) for helping the group make it this far.
“We were able to come this far thanks to Hidden Kard, who have always remained a strong and unwavering source of support for us. For that, I am always deeply grateful,” she said.
She added: “I want Kard to remain a group that stay close by your side, becoming a cherished memory and a part of your youth, while continuing to be with you throughout the journey ahead.
“Thanks to all of you, we have been able to keep making music over the past 10 years and continue this almost miraculous journey of meeting you in so many cities around the world.”
Earlier in July, the group’s management agency DSP Media announced that Kard’s exclusive contract would end in December after nine years, following the release of their first full-length album and conclusion of their world tour.
In an interview with The Korea Times published on July 28, the members clarified that while their time with the agency will come to an end, they do not intend to part ways.
“The four of us still want to make music together, but that would just happen in a new environment,” Jiwoo explained.
Kard will be performing in Singapore on Sept 27 for their Now Here world tour at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. Tickets start at $98 on Sistic.
