Local actor Jeremy Chan suffered a back injury in August, making him unable to sit, stand or lie down comfortably for two days.
When asked about it on Sept 18 by the media while on the set of Mediacorp drama series All That Glitters, Jeremy said that his condition has improved significantly.
He recalled that he had strained his back during filming. Combined with old injuries and the fact that he is getting older, everything flared up during an off day.
“As I turned around, I heard a ‘piak’ sound. I thought, ‘That’s it! I can’t see a chiropractor, I need to see a traditional Chinese medicine physician.’ I actually drove myself there, but after the acupuncture, I couldn’t even walk,” he told Lianhe Zaobao.
Jeremy then reportedly called his wife, local actress Jesseca Liu, to drive him to the doctor.
He said he took medication, received a steroid injection and rested for two days, adding: “I couldn’t stand, sit or lie down; every movement had to be very slow.”
After three acupuncture sessions, his back injury improved slightly and he could lift his leg a little.
In an Instagram Story uploaded on Aug 7 by Jesseca, Jeremy was seen clutching a cane and walking with a hunched posture. The caption read: “Looks like the walking stick I bought for Mummy has come in handy!”
Another Instagram Story shared by Jeremy on the same day showed his hand clutching the top of the walking cane, accompanied by the caption: “The walking stick I originally bought for my mother-in-law has ended up being used by me.”
He told the media that since his mother-in-law sometimes suffers from leg pain, he had bought her a walking stick that doubles as a portable chair.
“I never expected to be the one to break it in before she got the chance to use it,” he quipped.
Jeremy revealed that he has yet to undergo a detailed medical examination but said that his condition is currently stable.
He also expressed his gratitude to the production team, whom he said adjusted many things and were “incredibly accommodating”.
“When an actor gets injured, it can bring production to a great halt for everyone,” he explained.
“I initially thought pulling a muscle so suddenly was a bit extreme, but people around me shared their own stories… It turns out it happens to everyone.”
