Hilaria Baldwin has defended her decision to release a skincare book with her 11-year-old daughter Carmen.
The TV personality, 41, came under fire from her followers last year when she announced the project, with many claiming Carmen was ‘too young’ to be into skincare.
Yet ahead of the book’s release next month, Hilaria hit back at critics as she insisted that children will always do what they want regardless of their parents’ approval.
She appeared in a joint interview with Carmen on Today as they discussed the inspiration behind the book, titled Glowing Up: Recipes To Rock Your Natural Beauty.
Hilaria explained: ‘We’re being aware of what are they putting on their skin’, as Carmen shared: ‘It was really, really fun and we got to spend a lot of time together.’
She added that they tested out one of the natural skincare recipes – a turmeric facemask on dad Alec – but noted: ‘The gross thing is that my dad doesn’t shower often so I was giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek and he still had a little orange under this chin!’

Asked how she was striking a balance between letting her daughter experiment while also ‘protecting’ her young years, Hilaria mused: ‘I think it’s not creating shame around the word beauty.’
She continued: ‘Our kids are going to grow up – the more we can allow them to want to include us in their interests…
‘They’re going to do it anyway and we all know that because we all did that!’
Carmen is the eldest of the seven children Hilaria has with Alec.
The couple are also parents Rafael Thomas, nine, Leonardo Angel Charles, eight, Romeo Alejandro David, six, Eduardo Pao Lucas, four, Maria Lucia ‘Lulu’ Victoria, four, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, two
Yet Hilaria insisted that no more babies were on the cards, joking in the chat: ‘I am not having anymore children, your dad [Alec] would love more children.
‘I tell him he can have children with his younger new wife!’
Hilaria announced the book with an Instagram post in December, sharing that her preteen daughter had written a new tome full of recipes for ‘natural’ beauty products.
She explained that Carmen is ‘obsessed’ with ‘skincare’ and recently started ‘making her own’ items at home using ‘beneficial ingredients.’
In the caption, Hilaria wrote that the book is a ‘guide to embracing self-care, building confidence, and celebrating natural beauty.’
She wrote: ‘If your child is like ours, skincare is an obsession. Walking that line of letting them explore and have fun, but also being conscious of what they are putting on their skin is a hard one.
‘We strike a balance in our home and part of it has been Carmen-led by watching her make her own skincare products, from our kitchen, researching, learning about beneficial ingredients, creating and having fun.’

She concluded the note by gushing about how ‘proud’ she was of the 11-year-old.
‘We are so proud of you Carmen, and so excited to share this project with you all,’ Hilaria wrote.
While discussing the upcoming book with People, Hilaria added: ‘One of my goals as a mother is to really foster my children’s creativity and individuality and see where their passions and skills collide.
‘She has made her own skincare products from our kitchen for years, learning what ingredients are beneficial, measuring, experimenting… creating. It is her work and I am just helping her see the potential and possibilities.’
Also in her interview with Today, Hilaria vowed to never let anyone speak for her again, days after she scolded Alec for interrupting her on the red carpet.
The couple’s marriage was thrust into the spotlight this week when a clip of Hilaria snapping at her husband ‘When I’m talking, you’re not talking’, went viral.
Seemingly doubling down on her remarks, Hilaria expressed her frustration at not being able to voice her thoughts.
Discussing why the Baldwins opened up their home for a new reality series, she explained: ‘Since I met Alec a lot of people have spoken for me, have taken my narrative. I don’t want that anymore.
‘This is an example for my children to hold your head up high and take control of your own narrative and we did it during a very vulnerable time.’
The family filmed the series amid Alec’s involuntary manslaughter trial over the fatal shooting of Rust’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Detailing the emotional turmoil they faced, Hilaria continued: ‘Everyday is a process and everyday is staying together and being together.
‘I think the way we’ve opened up on the show is really good answer to that. It takes courage and letting go [to be open].
‘We’re a very close knit family and we spend a lot of time together. That was true before and I think we are only closer afterwards.’

It was Hilaria’s first interview since she bickered with Alec while talking to Extra at the grand re-opening of Planet Hollywood in New York City last week.
The pair were discussing whether a second season of their TLC reality show The Baldwins was possibly in the works – with the first episode airing last month.
In a snippet of the interview that was shared to TikTok, the interviewer questioned if viewers could expect season two and Hilaria took a moment before answering.
Alec, 66, jumped in and quipped, ‘The Hilaria Show,’ and she then added, ‘No, I think we are going to see, you know, we’re going to see how it feels to be out there.’
The 30 Rock star then cut in to say, ‘It’s gonna be great. You’re a winner,’ which caused his wife to turn around and express, ‘Oh my God. When I’m talking, you’re not talking.’
‘I’m sorry,’ Alec said and Hilaria then repeated while holding her hands up, ‘When I’m talking, you’re not talking.’
She turned back to face the interviewer and joked, ‘This is why we’ll just have to cut him out of the show.’
After a brief second, Hilaria let out a small laugh and added, ‘No, I mean I think this is a really raw show and it’s very real and we took a lot of chances and we’ll see where it leads us.
‘We’ll see what it feels like to have it be out there and then we’ll see if people like it, that’s another thing too, you know.’
The couple’s marriage was thrust into the spotlight this week when a clip of Hilaria snapping at her husband ‘When I’m talking, you’re not talking’ during a red carpet interview went viral
Unsurprisingly the now viral clip raised questions about their marriage, with many condemning her behaviour.
But ‘fireworks’ are the norm, according to sources close to the fiery couple who dismissed the humiliating interaction as nothing more than ‘banter.’
‘That was a true reflection of their relationship,’ an insider told Daily Mail. ‘They test each other. It may have looked concerning to some, but it was all playful banter.
‘There is no harm. They both have strong personalities and that’s why they’re attracted to one another.
‘Alec finds Hilaria captivating and he loves that she can take his humor because Alec is never reserved in anything he does and vice versa.
For some, the thought of constant tussles with a partner is exhausting, but not for the A-list couple who reportedly ‘love challenging one another.’
‘Don’t get it twisted, there are always fireworks between them, it is what makes them tick. They love challenging one another.’
They later mocked the response to the interview in an Instagram post in which Hilaria accused her husband of ‘manterrupting’ as he apologised for his behavior.
Alec admitted in the clip that he suffers from ‘correctile dysfunction.’

The video saw them engaging in a patronizing back-and-forth, with the yoga teacher–turned–reality star cuing up her husband’s responses.
‘And that is called — what’s the word of the day?’ Hilaria began after the audio had ended, setting Alec up to wearily reply: ‘Manterrupting.’
‘So, the whole point is that we interrupt each other all the time,’ Hilaria finished as they concluded the video with a kiss.
The couple, who married in 2012, have history with public spats. Back in 2021 Hilaria was branded ‘a desperate attention-seeker’ after interrupting Alec’s press conference about Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ death, prompting her movie star husband to glare and snap at her.
During the impromptu talk with press, which took place just ten days after the incident on the set of the movie, Hilaria repeatedly barged in, paced in front of the camera, and scowled at the reporter, while making a show of filming the exchange on her iPhone.
Last year, Alec’s involuntary manslaughter trial was dismissed after he denied ever pulling the trigger on the revolver that fired a single bullet into Rust director Joel Souza’s arm and fatally punctured cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ chest in 2021.
On January 9, he filed a civil lawsuit against the Rust case prosecutors, investigators, and commissioners for defamation and malicious prosecution and civil rights violations due to ‘intentionally mishandling evidence.’
