Kate Middleton will ease back on releasing her outfit details to the media because she wants the public to focus on her charitable impact rather than her wardrobe.

“There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing,” a palace source told The Sunday Times UK in an article published Saturday.

“She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting,” the source added.

While the insider explained that the Princess of Wales, 43, understands her fans have an interest in her style, Middleton feels she doesn’t need to be the one drawing attention to it.

“There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No,” the source said. “The style is there but it’s about the substance.”

Middleton’s new press release policy will stray from Buckingham Palace’s protocol of routinely releasing details of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s outfit details.

It’s worth nothing that the royal often takes the opportunity to send a message via her clothing during her public outings, whether that’s honoring a particular country by wearing their colors at a state visit or hiding hidden meanings in her symbolic jewelry.

The Royal Foundation co-founder’s shift in focus follows the completion of her cancer treatment.

Middleton announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. After undergoing chemotherapy, she revealed last month that she was in remission.

Her health battle has caused Middleton to prioritize more meaningful endeavors and she shared in a statement last year that she has “a new perspective on everything.”

“This time has above all reminded William and me to reflect and be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved, “she said at the time.

Middleton has allegedly expressed her frustrations with the attention she often receives for her outfits instead of her causes in the past.

“When she goes to the ‘Bond’ premiere or is at Trooping the Colour, of course she puts on the ‘uniform’ of the role,” a close friend of Middleton told The Sunday Times in 2022. “But what was enormously frustrating and difficult for her, especially in the early days, was she was going out and doing the work she was interested in and was hugely important to her, and people just talked about what she was wearing.”

The palace will reportedly continue to release her outfit or jewelry details for important family and state events but will hold back for her smaller public-facing royal engagements.
