Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, for a Rs 30-crore fraud case, which was registered in Udaipur early Sunday from Mumbai. Dr. Ajay Murdia, an Udaipur-based IVF specialist, is also the founder of the Indira Group of Companies. Udaipur’s superintendent of police, Yogesh Goyal, said that “The arrest was made at Ganga Bhavan Apartments in the Yari Road area, which is said to be the residence of Bhatt’s sister-in-law. The police will now apply for a transit remand in Bandra court to bring him to Udaipur for further investigation.” Dr. Ajay accused Vikram Bhatt, along with eight others, of cheating him of Rs. 30 crore.

Shwetambari works as a producer and curator of art. She established a production company named VSB Production (VSB LLC) using her name. Shwetambari has emerged as a significant figure on Instagram, boasting more than 5,800 followers. She imparts knowledge regarding spirituality, art, and literature. Furthermore, she has three kids from an earlier marriage and has blended nicely into Vikram’s family.
Because of COVID-19, Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari’s wedding was a modest ceremony at home attended by both families. Vikram has commended Shwetambari’s intelligence and transparency concerning the path of his projects. When they got married, Vikram was 52 years old and mentioned it was a mature, organized relationship concerning their kids.

More about the case

As per the complaint, Dr. Murdia met producer Dinesh Katariya at an event. He proposed the idea of making a biopic of the doctor’s late wife, highlighting her contribution to the nation. Dr. Murdia went to Vrindavan Studio in Mumbai, where he was introduced to Vikram Bhatt. They both agreed to make the movie and came to an agreement about Bhatt handling the filmmaking part, while the doctor would provide the finances. Allegedly, Bhatt also told Dr. Murdia that his wife, Shaitambari, and daughter, Krishna, were both involved in the process of making the movie. They made Shaitambari’s firm, VSB LLP, a partner in the project as well. They signed a contract for two films, “Biopic” and “Maharana,” worth Rs. 40 crores.

On May 31, 2024, Dr. Mudiya sent Rs.2.5 crore to Bhatt via RTGS. A few days later, another ₹7 crore was requested, with assertions that four movies would be made for ₹47 crore, potentially generating profits of ₹100–200 crore. Trusting the guarantees, Dr. Mudiya settled payments to the suppliers listed by Bhatt and his partners.

On July 2, 2024, Dr. Mudiya established Indira Entertainment LLP and transferred approximately Rs.3 lakh from the company’s account. Nonetheless, after various events that made him doubt, Dr. Mudiya claimed that he had been deceived and later lodged an FIR.

Bhopalpura police of Udaipur registered the FIR on 8th November 2025 under sections 318(4), 316(2), 336(3), 340(2), and 61(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
