Dean McDermott marked three years of sobriety and thanked his family for their support following his messy split from Tori Spelling on the same anniversary.
On Friday, the 59-year-old actor filmed and shared a video via Instagram, in which he referred to himself as ‘Clean Dean’ and celebrated his momentous milestone.
In the clip, he also opened up about his journey to sobriety and encouraged others to embark on the same path to get clean.
‘Today, June 26, I celebrate three years being clean and sober. Yes, it can be done,’ he said.
‘I want to let you know out there if you’re suffering and you’re in pain that it can be done. Hell has an exit. If I can do it, you can do it.’
McDermott previously quit drinking and went to rehab following his separation from Spelling, 53, in 2023.

He encouraged others to ask for help when they need it as he reflected on his own sobriety journey.
‘It starts by reaching out your hand and asking for help,’ McDermott said in his Instagram Reel.
‘I know in your darkest days that seems like Mount Everest to do that, but reach out. … Ask for help, it’s OK. You can’t do this thing alone, none of us can.’
He also wrote in his caption: ‘WOW we wee WOW!! 3 years!! Couldn’t have done it without my Family, Friends, Fellowship, Sponsor and a 12 step program!!
‘It all started with surrendering and asking for help,’ he continued before calling his choice to get help and get clean as ‘the best decision I’ve ever made.’
‘If you’re struggling, reach out. I love you all,’ he wrote alongside emojis of hands together in prayer and the hashtags, ‘#recovery’ and ‘#blessed.’
McDermott and Spelling finalized their divorce just last year in late October after their initial split in June 2023.
He was previously married to Spelling for 17 years. He and the actress share five children: Liam, 19, Stella, 18, Hattie, 14, Finn, 13, and nine-year-old Beau.

McDermott is also father to son Jack, 27, with his first ex-wife, Mary Jo Eustace.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail following his split, McDermott admitted that he blamed his abuse of alcohol and drugs for the collapse of his marriage to the 90210 star.
‘Alcohol made me feel good enough. I started feeling good enough until it got to a point where it didn’t; it ended up in isolation,’ he said at the time.
Prior to his sobriety journey, he said he had been ‘drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week’ and consuming ‘a handful of [prescription medications].’
He recalled being isolated in the same house as his wife and kids and recalled how he was in the throes of addiction ‘with a beautiful family in the other room.’
He said he wanted to get clean after finally coming to the realization about his alcohol-induced ‘anger’ and the fights that would ‘petrify’ his wife and kids.
‘That’s what it led to and that’s what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori,’ he said. ‘I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling.’
‘I would wake up angry that I woke up and I have these five, six beautiful kids in my life, but I was so dark and hopeless, I couldn’t see that,’ he recalled.
Since the couple finalized their divorce in late 2025, McDermott said they have been amicable coparents; seen in January 2023

‘She came from just such a place of love and wanting me to be healthy and happy,’ he said while praising his then-wife for her constant support.
‘She put my well-being well ahead of hers,’ McDermott noted. ‘She loved me so much that she didn’t really want to tell me how it was affecting her, although I could see it in her face.’
Since the pair finalized their divorce, they have become amicable coparents to their five children.
‘We’re great coparents,’ McDermott told Us Weekly in November 2025. ‘Our relationship is fantastic.’
He continued: ‘We’re a united front. It’s all about the kids. At the end of the day, we’re a family, right?
‘And whether we’re together or not, I love Tori. I’ll love her for the rest of my life, and she’s gonna love me for the rest of her life.’
