This popular Bollywood singer turned a year old on January 6 and was born in a Hindu family in Madras. His name in childhood was Dilip Kumar Rajagopal and his father RK Shekhar was a music composer for Tamil and Malayalam films. As a child, the singer was quite interested in music from the start. He even learned piano at the age of 4. Can you guess who are we talking about?

We are talking about AR Rahman who lost his father at the age of 9 and had to work to support the family. He could not study and failed in school. In one of his old interviews, Rahman said that when his father was battling cancer, he met a Sufi saint. After some years, Rahman met the Sufi saint again and his spiritual journey began. He accepted Islam along with his family and changed his name to Allah Rakha Rahman when he was 23 years old. In 1991, he started recording his own music and in 1993 director Mani Ratnam gave him a chance to compose music for Roja. AR Rahman reportedly got Rs 25000.

He even won the Filmfare Award in his first film and then the rest is history. He has even become the highest-paid singer in India. Reportedly, the singer charges a higher fee for a song and he sings his own composed songs. When he lends his voice to someone then he charges more money. According to media reports, AR Rahman charges around Rs 3 crore for a song and he is a part-time singer. He holds 2 Guinness World Records to his name – one for his song Vande Mataram which he sang in different languages and a second for his original composition.

Even the Ambani family had invited AR Rahman and Shreya Ghoshal to Radhika and Anant Ambani’s wedding function. The two recreated Barson Re Megha and Tere Bina songs. According to reports, Rahman’s net worth is 1700 crores. The singer was in the news for parting ways with his wife Saira Banu.
