Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan shot to superstardom with his ‘Angry Young Man’ look in the 1970s. Within no time, he managed to make females go weak in their knees with his charisma. With the release of Bollywood blockbuster Zanjeer, Amitabh Bachchan emerged as a superstar and gave back-to-back hit films including Deewar, Don, Lawaaris among others. Following Amitabh Bachchan’s success, another actor – after several years – became a superstar by working in remakes of Big B’s films. Can you guess who we are talking about?
Rajinikanth was a promising actor who played villain in Tamil and Telugu films. Within no time, he gained immense praise for his exceptional performances but did not receive the same success as a hero. But in 1980 when he starred in Billa, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don everything changed for Rajinikanth. The film broke several records at the box office and he became an overnight star. He then acted in six more films that were remakes of Amitabh’s hits and all became blockbuster hits. Within no time, Rajinikanth became a top star in the Tamil film industry.
Rajinikanth starred in Ram Robert Rahim, a remake of Amar Akbar Anthony (1978), Thee (1981), a remake of the 1975 blockbuster Deewar, Padikkadavan in 1985, a remake of Khud-Daar (1982), and Velaikkaran (1987), a remake of Namak Halaal (1982). He also did Dharmathin Thalaivan (1988), a remake of the 1978 release Kasme Vaade. He worked in the last remake of Amitabh Bachchan film which was Panakkaran, based on the 1981 hit Lawaaris. Both, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan worked in Hum films.
The actor reportedly charges over Rs 200 crore per film and in 2023 he was the highest-paid actor in Asia. As per reports, he charges more than Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Prabhas. His net worth is around Rs 500 crore reportedly.
