The fourth season premiere of Ted Lasso was, in fact, highly anticipated, based on Nielsen’s streaming ratings data.

The series’ return, three-plus years after its last episode, set a premiere window viewing record for Apple TV. Based on early data from Nielsen, Ted Lasso drew 296.6 million minutes of viewing time on Aug. 4 and 5. About 200 million of those minutes came on Aug. 5, making Ted Lasso the No. 1 streaming series in the United States that day.

The 296.6 million minutes for season four’s launch window is substantially higher than the previous record for an Apple TV season or series debut — which was held by season three of Ted Lasso in 2023 at 215.1 million viewing minutes.

Streaming numbers for the full week of Aug. 3-9 won’t be available for several weeks. Based on its premiere day performance, however, Ted Lasso seems all but certain to rejoin the top 10 charts. (A change to Nielsen’s Streaming Content Ratings on Aug. 7 allows for easier parsing of daily viewing totals.)

The season four premiere was filmed in Kansas City, where Ted (Jason Sudeikis) has resettled after deciding to leave AFC Richmond at the end of season three. Richmond owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley (Juno Temple) and Higgins (Jeremy Swift) visit the city ostensibly to gather intel on running a women’s professional team from the NWSL’s Kansas City Current — but also to convince Ted to return to London and coach the new Richmond women’s side.

The season four cast also features returnees Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt and new additions Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely.

The executive producers for season four are Sudeikis, Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, Jack Burditt, Goldstein, Leann Bowen, Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh are writers and producers, and Sasha Garron co-produces. Julia Lindon and story editor Dylan Marron are also in the writers room. Lawrence’s Doozer Productions produces in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television.
