Rebecca Gayheart and her ALS-stricken husband, Eric Dane, are on good terms a month after deciding to call off their divorce.
The former model shared an update on their marriage just one day before Dane’s shocking amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis was revealed.
“We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great co-parents,” Gayheart, 53, told E! News at “The Carters: Hurts To Love You” screening in Los Angeles Wednesday.
The actress — who shares kids Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, with Dane — explained that she and the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum have “really figured out the formula to staying a family.”
“I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well,” she said.
Gayheart doesn’t view their marital woes as something negative and instead has a positive outlook on their rocky relationship.
“I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It’s just a season. It wasn’t a failure. It was a huge success,” she explained.
“We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum filed to dismiss her divorce from Dane, 52, last month after seven years.
Gayheart, who married Dane in August 2004, initially filed for divorce in February 2018, citing irreconcilable differences. At the time, she had requested spousal support and joint custody of their daughters in her filing.
But seven years after their split, Page Six confirmed that they both signed the dismissal request.
The duo decided to give love another try just a month before news surfaced that Dane was diagnosed with the horrible nervous system disease.
“I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” Dane revealed to People Thursday.
“I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
ALS affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and can lead to loss of muscle control as it progresses over time, according to the Mayo Clinic. There is no known cure.
Despite his health challenges, the “Euphoria” star will revive his role as Cal Jacobs in Season 3 of the HBO series, which starts filming next week.
Dane and Gayheart notably remained amicable amid their separation, sparking reconciliation rumors when they embarked on family vacations together in Europe and in Mexico.
Their relationship was put to the test in 2009 when they had to deal with a leaked sex tape — a challenge they clearly were able to overcome.
