Singapore has recently become a filming ground for South Korean stars, with actress Pyo Ye-jin and Jo I-geon from Single’s Inferno 5 spotted here filming a new microdrama.
In an Instagram post on Sept 15, local bespoke tailor Benjamin Tay showed behind-the-scenes footage of the drama filming outside JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach.
He captioned: “Still surreal seeing my car go from the streets to the set. What a moment.”
Tay revealed in an earlier video shared on Aug 18 that a production company had approached him about using his red MG Cyberster for a shoot, with a South Korean actor set to take the wheel.
“To be honest, I’m both excited and nervous at the same time,” he said in the video.
He added in a third post today (Sept 17): “As someone who enjoys K-dramas, seeing my own car on set alongside I-geon felt completely surreal.”
An MG Cyberster costs around $330,000 in Singapore.
In Tay’s video, Ye-jin can be seen filming several scenes in different outfits, while I-geon appears behind the wheel of the eye-catching open-top car with scissor doors.
AsiaOne did a check and found that I-geon shared photos from Singapore on Instagram on Aug 29 and Sept 11, including one of himself at JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach swimming pool.
South Korean singer-actor Kim Myung-soo, better known as Infinite’s L, was also spotted filming at Clarke Quay in July.
The 34-year-old later shared an Instagram post on Sept 1 featuring photos from his time in the city, including shots of himself around Singapore’s streets, Bugis and Marina Bay Sands.
In a statement yesterday, Mediacorp announced a new Singapore-South Korea romantic comedy titled Collateral Romance, starring Myung-soo and Ye-jin. Local actress Gladys Bay will also appear in the series.
Co-produced by the broadcaster and Korean content company Blintn, the 12-episode microdrama will be filmed in both countries and is set to premiere in the first half of 2027.
The story follows Lee Jeong-sik (Myung-soo), a free-spirited timber dealer with a passion for trees, and Na Da-woon (Ye-jin), a pragmatic merchandising director who dreams of an ordinary, stable life. The two cross paths in an unfamiliar city, where an unexpected incident draws them into each other’s lives and they gradually develop feelings for one another.
Mediacorp also announced a separate partnership with South Korean drama production company Studio S and short-form K-drama platform Soonshot.
The three organisations will develop four short-form dramas, featuring Singaporean and Korean actors.
Leading the slate is a short-form adaptation of the 2018 South Korean romantic comedy Still 17, which follows a violin prodigy who wakes from a 13-year coma at age 30, believing she is still the 17-year-old she was before the accident. It is slated for release by the end of 2026.
The remaining three titles will be announced progressively, with casting for all four productions currently underway.
The dramas will be available across Mediacorp’s platforms and Soonshot, with plans for international distribution.
In April, Korean actors Park Eun-bin, Yang Se-jong and Ong Seong-wu filmed the occult romance-thriller K-drama Spooky in Love in Singapore.
Upcoming K-drama Buy King, which stars Ju Ji-hoon and Lee Jun-ho, was also partially filmed in Singapore in April and May.
Lee Joon-gi filmed here with local actress Carrie Wong in November last year.
