Local singer Kit Chan turned 54 on Sept 15 and to celebrate it, she stayed home.
In an Instagram post on the same day, Kit said she chose to spend her birthday alone in a “self-imposed home quarantine” because of her Sept 19 concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“With the haze and the possibility of catching something, I have decided to just stay home,” she said.
“But staying home is never boring, between practising my songs, exercising and taking care of the mini food garden on my balconette. Those beautiful, luscious plants not only provide ideas for meals, they also bring much joy, just from looking at them thrive under my care.”
She’s also feeling “blessed” with well-wishes and gifts from her loved ones, who fill up her month with celebrations.
Kit candidly shared that a hornbill visited her balconette recently and ate five of her homegrown chillies, sharing a video of it along with her collection of plants.
“September is looking rosy and promising, despite the haze and all the bad things happening out in the world,” she added.
“If age has taught me anything, it is to embrace life with gratitude and to make the most of every day.”
Kit, who is best known for songs such as Heartache (1994) and Home (1998), has been making stops in China for her Atrium Live Tour solo concerts. Her homecoming concert marks her first Singapore show in three years.
She last held a concert here at Sands Theatre in 2023.
In a June interview with The Straits Times, Kit said an “atrium” is a symbolic chamber where one’s deepest secrets, joys and unspoken pain reside, which “can be raging with storms or be quiet and meditative”.
When asked about her Valentine’s Day Instagram post where she mentioned she’s “waiting for spring to come”, Kit told the local paper: “The key word is waiting. I am neither pursuing nor in a hurry.
“Rather, for me, agape (a non-sexual, selfless type of love) has always been the most important thing to me because it is the foundation of all relationships.”
