Miley Cyrus’ dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, was absent from Monday’s premiere of the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary” special in Los Angeles — despite being featured in the trailer.
The singer posed alongside her mom, Tish Cyrus, and older sister, Brandi, before being joined by their respective partners, Maxx Morando, Dominic Purcell and Matt Southcombe.
Also at the premiere were two of Dominic’s kids with ex-wife Rebecca Williamson: Joseph and Lily-Rose.
Aside from Billy Ray, Miley’s younger sister, Noah Cyrus, was also missing. Miley’s brothers — Trace, Christopher and Braison — were not present either.
For the special night premiere, Miley sparkled in a silver dress, which she paired with a crop top featuring her “Hannah Montana” character, Miley Stewart.
She completed the look with a blond wig, similar to the one Hannah Montana used to wear.
Billy Ray’s absence from the red carpet was noticeble after he was featured in the reunion. The two had reconnected following years of family drama.
Miley and the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer, 64, became estranged in 2022 following his divorce from Tish, 58, after almost 30 years of marriage.
“The divorce between her parents [has] put a strain on her relationship with her dad, and it’s been hard to connect with him in the last year,” a source told E! News that October. “She hopes they can eventually work on their relationship.”
The rift deepened after Noah and Braison skipped Tish’s August 2023 wedding to Purcell — in which Miley served as her mom’s Maid of Honor — and instead opted to go on a Walmart excursion.
Noah, 26, had reportedly dated Purcell, 56, before the actor struck up a romance with her mother.
The estrangement continued after Miley excluded her dad from her acceptance speech at the 2024 Grammys after her song “Flowers” won the award for record of the year.
“My mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays because look how good I look,” she said, referencing Tish, Brandi, Morando and her stylists, respectively.
A source told Page Six in January 2025 that Miley had “no interest” in repairing her relationship with her dad, and had “signed off” on her brother Trace publicly pleading for him to seek professional help after his disastrous performance at President Trump’s post-inauguration Liberty Ball.
However, Miley surprisingly reunited with Billy Ray to celebrate Braison’s 31st birthday in May 2025. The “Butterly Fly Away” singer posted an Instagram pic on of him and Braison beside Miley, who had her arms around Morando.
Miley acknowledged her family’s “dark decade” during her appearance on Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” podcast in June 2025, when she explained why they never saw a family therapist.
“Just to get each other into a room to get to counseling would have been a war,” she said, referencing the family’s “really difficult … dark decade.”
The “Wrecking Ball” singer noted that “half of [her family members] weren’t speaking to each other at one point,” admitting that she “had a lot of loyalty to” Tish amid her divorce from Billy Ray.
Miley released her emotional song “Secrets,” which she dedicated to her dad, in September 2025.
“This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same.”
Billy Ray thanked his daughter for the song, responding, “Thank you @mileycyrus for Secrets… a song straight from your heart to mine. The memories we’ve made together mean the world to me, and seeing you soar with your music makes me prouder every single day.”
