The fashionable former first lady is throwing it back to her OG days.
Michelle Obama appeared on Wednesday’s episode of “Call Her Daddy” wearing a pair of Isabel Marant high-waisted jeans ($690 $414), white striped button-down shirt and an Isabel Marant red sweater vest ($620 $403).
She wore her vest open and unzipped, held together at the top by a safety pin-inspired Isabel Marant brooch ($395 $237) with dangling charms.
She pulled hair hair back into a high ponytail and layered silver bracelets on her left wrist.
“This is a Meredith Koop original,” Obama said of her outfit, referring to her longtime stylist. “And as we were thinking about promotions for the tour … there is a picture that a lot of people have been showing of me at Princeton and Meredith Koop had the idea of updating. This is the updated version.”
“So, it’s a redo. It’s the next version. My campus look, 2.0 — or 5.0,” she continued.
Koop is the woman behind some of the former first lady’s most iconic looks. She also recently co-authored “The Look” with Obama, a book that celebrates her style over the years and the glam team behind the work.
One of the first images in the book harkens back to where it all began. Shared on Instagram nearly eight years ago, Obama wrote, “This is me at Princeton in the early 1980s,” to which she added, “I know that being a first-generation college student can be scary, because it was scary for me… I’d never stood out in a crowd or a classroom because of the color of my skin before. But I found close friends and a mentor who gave me the confidence to be myself.”
In the throwback snap, a smiling college-age Obama (née Robinson) stands on the Princeton University quad, hand in her pocket, wearing high-waisted jeans, a striped button down, red sweater and a jean jacket on top.
Four days after her 62nd birthday, Obama has been experimenting more than ever with her look, wearing more high-fashion labels and daring silhouettes in recent months.
We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for the public figure.
