Details continue to emerge as the investigation into the death of Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son, Miller Gardner, continues.

A representative from Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency, Juan Pablo Alvarado Garcia, confirmed that the former MLB star and his entire family suffered an illness on the evening of Thursday, March 20. Miller was found dead the following morning.

Brett, 41, along with his wife, Jessica Gardner, 16-year-old son Hunter and the late Miller “suffered severe stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea” that night, Garcia told the Daily Mail in an interview published on Wednesday, March 26.

The Gardner family was staying at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront and Rainforest Resort in Costa Rica. The resort has since released a statement claiming that the family did not eat lunch or dinner at any of the restaurants on hotel property.

However, Garcia told the Daily Mail that the resort’s doctor was called “immediately” once the family started experiencing symptoms Thursday night. Each member was administered medication, he claimed.

The resort released a statement to ABC News on Tuesday, March 25, regarding the family’s reported illness.

“The hotel staff dispatched a medical team immediately, including a licensed doctor, which arrived to handle the emergency situation,” Arenas Del Mar said in the statement. “Our hotel protocol at Arenas Del Mar does not allow for hotel staff to provide any medication to guests.”

Garcia confirmed to the Daily Mail that Costa Rican authorities are looking into the possibility that an allergic reaction to the reported medication caused Miller’s death. (A source close to the investigation shared a similar report with ABC News on Tuesday.)

“We’re doing toxicology tests to determine if this medicine could have caused the death,” Garcia stated. (A preliminary cause of death ruled that Miller died from asphyxia, but Us Weekly has since confirmed that authorities’ initial determination has now been ruled out entirely.)
