“Wicked” co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo may not have won in their respective categories at the Oscars 2025 Sunday evening — but according to Melissa Rivers, they triumphed above the rest on the red carpet.

“Everyone else went for what is trending, and those two don’t care,” the “Fashion Police” alum and daughter of late icon Joan Rivers tells Page Six Style, adding Grande and Erivo “set the fashion bar” for the night with their Schiaparelli Haute Couture and custom Louis Vuitton looks, respectively.

“Those were major couture runway pieces that [say], ‘Don’t try this at home, kids,’” she quips.

Below, Rivers breaks down more of her favorite (and least favorite) looks from the Academy Awards.

Cynthia Erivo

“The dress that Cynthia performed in was beautiful. That was when I went, wow. It wouldn’t have made sense for her in context of what [she and Ariana have] been doing on the red carpet. But I was like, that’s an Oscar dress. That one took my breath away.”

Elle Fanning

“She, to me, brought old-school movie star [energy]. She’s also, like, 200 feet tall and built to wear those kinds of clothes. But I thought: That’s old-school Hollywood glam. I thought she looked amazing.”

Zoe Saldaña

“She’s brought it the whole season. Every look has been thought through. I think she had a good feeling she was going to win; you can tell when women are dressed thinking they [will] win, because the top half of the dress is always more classic, more simple. Because that’s the picture of them holding their Oscar. And the top of that dress was spectacular — and the bottom was very, very fashion-y. And I loved the color!”

Demi Moore

“She came dressed to win. Again, the top was much more simple, then you had that kind of sculpted hip. But the dress was was spectacular: Armani Privé. She always does really well with them. I mean, she looked fabulous.”

Mikey Madison

“Very Dior, very classic. She looked great, the hair and makeup looked great, but I just felt like it was a little boring. And to me, she’s too young to be wearing that kind of real vintage look. I wanted a little more excitement from her.”

Selena Gomez

“Her and Ralph Lauren are always a great combination. She’s happy, and it comes through. She didn’t go silver, which was one of the big, huge trends; it was almost like a rose gold. Beyond beautiful.”

Mindy Kaling

“She has never looked better. That dress — loved it. [I was] like, ‘I would want to wear that one!’”

Timothée Chalamet

“Are we doing this because we’re fashion-forward or because we want attention? I don’t know. I can’t figure it out. I mean, wouldn’t it be nice if you showed up just looking elegant? I get that he’s into fashion, but oh, Timothée, why the yellow? No tie? I just it didn’t work for me, but a lot of what he does doesn’t particularly work for me. Also, it’s the Oscars! You have fun at the Globes. You can have fun at SAG. The Oscars are the Oscars.”

Jeremy Strong

“Jeremy Strong — who I have hated this whole season — I didn’t mind it! We got rid of the bucket hat, and I liked the fact that he did not go so far over the line.”

Jeff Goldblum

“[He] normally looks like a buffoon, [but this was] the best of all the wacky stuff he’s worn. Oh my God, my mom is going to strike me dead. But he usually goes so far [overboard] that I was like, it’s the mature version!”

Penélope Cruz

“There weren’t really misses; some were just boring. Penélope Cruz in Chanel? Boring. Didn’t love, didn’t hate. Meh.”

Monica Barbaro

“[She] did not look like a nominee. Really pretty dress, really pretty woman … but it just felt boring.”

Halle Berry

“[She’s] always beautiful. I really liked the front, and I really liked the back. I didn’t like the sides. But I mean, as my mother used to say, talk about gilding the lily. That’s like saying, ‘I prefer the pear-shaped diamond over the round.’ They’re still really big diamonds!”
