Kerry Katona has revealed she has been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis after being blue lighted to hospital in agonising pain.

The TV personality, 45, shared the news of her condition in her new! magazine column this week, where she revealed she spent a day and night in a hospital hallway.

She revealed that before receiving her diagnosis, the hospital was so full she was forced to slept out in the hall before being given her own room.

Kerry detailed the painful experience and explained how she was immediately given morphine in the ambulance because she was ‘screaming’ in agony.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) causing inflammation and open sores in the innermost lining of the rectum and large intestine.

Sharing her plight, Kerry said: ‘I was taken into hospital in an ambulance at the end of last week. I was in so much pain I was screaming so the paramedics had to give me morphine there and then.

‘I’ve been diagnosed with something called colitis, which is something to do with my bowel. I won’t lie it’s been s***! Do excuse the pun.

‘I was in a bed in the hallway for a day and night before I was given a room because of how full the hospital was – I was quite shocked to hear all the hospitals are like that at the minute.’

Last month, Kerry revealed she had received hospital treatment after falling ill with a previously undiagnosed bowel condition.

The former Atomic Kitten star needed medical attention, resulting in an overnight stay at her local hospital.

The long-term condition typically manifests through cramps, severe abdominal pain and chronic diarrhoea, sometimes discharged with blood, pus or mucus.

It came soon after the singer recently admitted she would be ‘devastated’ if her children ever joined OnlyFans, despite revealing she plans to continue working on the adult site well into retirement after earning millions.

Katona, a mother-of-five, made the confession in her latest New! magazine column while weighing in on former Emmerdale actress Sammy Winward’s feud with her pregnant daughter Mia Winward.

The family fallout began two years ago after Mia opted to cash in on OnlyFans, where top creators can reportedly earn thousands of pounds a week.

WHAT IS ULCERATIVE COLITIS?

 WHAT IS ULCERATIVE COLITIS?

Ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition, where the colon (the bowel) and rectum become inflamed. It affects around one in every 420 people living in the UK.

Small ulcers can develop on the colon’s lining, and can bleed and produce pus.

Symptoms include recurring diarrhoea, which may contain blood, mucus or pus, abdominal pain and needing to empty your bowels frequently.

People may also experience fatigue, loss of appetite and weight loss.

WHAT CAUSES ULCERATIVE COLITIS?

Ulcerative colitis is thought to be an autoimmune condition which means the immune system – the body’s defence against infection – goes wrong and attacks healthy tissue.

The most popular theory is that the immune system mistakes harmless bacteria inside the colon for a threat and attacks the tissues of the colon, causing it to become inflamed.

Exactly what causes the immune system to behave in this way is unclear. Most experts think it’s a combination of genetic and environmental factors.

Discussing the estrangement, Katona insisted that life is too short for parents to cut off their children over career choices, even if they disapprove.

However, despite running her own successful OnlyFans account, the singer admitted she would struggle if her own children followed in her footsteps, but she would never stop speaking to them.

She wrote: ‘Sammy Winward’s daughter Mia recently announced she was pregnant – but hasn’t told her mum yet because of their fallout over OnlyFans two years ago.

‘I don’t think you should fallout with your child because they’re doing OnlyFans, life is too short.

Katona noted that ‘everyone’ seems to be joining the platform and stressed that Mia has done nothing illegal.

She added: ‘If one of my children were to do OnlyFans I’d be devastated but I’d never not talk to them.’

She joined OnlyFans in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic and has previously claimed she earned £175,000 in her first month alone.

Writing in her OK! column, Katona revealed she plans to continue posting on the platform for years to come and teased that a well-known celebrity nearing 70 is considering signing up.

She explained: ‘I actually have some very interesting news that is gonna be coming out very soon about a certain celebrity pushing 70 who wants to do OnlyFans.’

In September, Katona appeared on Paul C. Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk, where she spoke about how OnlyFans helped her financially after becoming bankrupt.

She said: ‘I made about £175,000 in the first month. I’ve made millions. I’ve made millions on it and I’ll continue to do it because it’s just too much money to turn down.’
