Katy Perry is in her comeback era according to fans, after dropping the music video for her new single Watch It Burn on Thursday.
The popstar has struggled to make an impact in the charts in recent years with Woman’s World, the lead single from 2024 album 143, failing to crack the Top 50.
Between 2008 and 2013, Katy racked up nine No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and fans have insisted she is finally back, with the release of her new track and video.
Watch It Burn sees Katy singing about reclaiming her life by saying goodbye to a long-term relationship, with lyrics including: ‘Tonight’s the night, I light a match/ Throw it hard behind my back/Gonna try to forgive and forget/ Light a cigarette, and watch it burn.’
The hitmaker adds in the lyrics, ‘I’m gonna get what I deserve … Finally I put myself first.’
Meanwhile the accompanying video is packed with Easter Eggs which her followers have quickly linked to the star’s ex Orlando Bloom.

The horror-movie style video sees Katy turn into a scorpion/human hybrid, with a tail hellbent on destroying everything in its past.
After escaping from a hospital, Katy is seen wandering through a town, with her scorpion tail shattering windows, keying car doors and setting buildings alight as she sings the chorus lyrics: ‘light a match’ and ‘watch it burn.’
One sequence sees a newsstand go up in flames, with fans pointing out the magazines are all nods to ‘alpha male’ publications, including titles: ‘Gaslight Magazine’ and ‘Slop Times’ and headlines like ‘5 Ways to Weaponize Your Incompetence’ – ‘She Just Wasn’t Listening’ – ‘What to Say to Drive Your Partner Crazy’.
Some fans even pointed out that one of the magazine’s covers looks eerily similar to a Details magazine spread Orlando once starred in, with the fake male model the spitting image of the actor.
Other fans pointed out that the magazine model’s name as written on the cover is Jensen Turner, a subtle reference to Orlando’s Pirates of the Caribbean character Will Turner.
Elsewhere, an antique store named ‘Time Will Tell’ is set on fire, while television screens display the message ‘Breaking News: Don’t Believe Everything You Hear’ alongside a sign reading, ‘Read Between the Headlines.’
The destruction eventually leads Katy to a church, where her powers finally disappear before members of the congregation lift the collapsed star onto the altar.
A priest baptizes her, and the video ends with the singer sitting upright in the baptismal bath, staring ahead.

Fans were left impressed by the track and video with one declaring: ‘SHES SO BACK, ABSOLUTE CINEMA.’
‘Katy Perry should stick to her signature sound. This song is so her! This is her DNA! Hope the upcoming album is simply like THAT!’ agreed another.
‘I like how it started off of something you’d see in a horror film. You can tell that this is her angriest era yet,’ commented one of the video.
Others enjoyed the nostalgia of the sound, with one fan writing: ‘she is literally back this reminds me of old katy.’
‘This is so 2008 and I’m here for it’; ‘Katy’s roots are heavy on this one!! SO NOSTALGIC I LOVE IT SO MUCH’ agreed other fans.
One decided it was ‘Song and video of the year’ adding: ‘This is how you should do a comeback’

While speaking with cowriter Justin Tranter on his Unfamous podcast, Katy recently explained how ‘in Watch It Burn, I am wrestling with my darkness, but last year was pretty tough.’
‘I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be f**king angry about,’ she continued.
‘What I’ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be f**king angry. I’m allowed to be angry for a f**king moment.’
Katy and Orlando, who share daughter Daisy Dove, five, ended their engagement in January 2025.
The singer struck up a surprise romance with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau in July 2025 and recently called him ‘the love of my life.’

‘I have love in my life now. That’s transformed me,’ Katy said during her chat on the Unfamous podcast.
‘You think when The Beatles say, “All you need is love,” it’s a cliche? Cliches are cliches for a reason… it’s like you don’t know until you have your baby how beautiful that experience is and how it transforms you.’
‘I don’t typically feel like a victim. You can hear it in my songs [that] I don’t resonate with that, but last year was pretty tough,’ she continued.
‘It would have been easy for me to fall into that weird victim triangle. So, instead of falling into “woe is me,” I was just like, “Let’s just feel this f****** pain, let’s feel this anger and let’s move on. Let’s learn from it also. Let’s get some feedback from it.”‘

Katy insisted she has now come to terms with her split from Orlando, 49, and has adjusted her own boundaries.
‘You know what it is? It’s really boundaries [of] boundaries within yourself, and then when to boil it even further down, it’s just self-respect. It’s just love for yourself,’ the chart-topper explained.
‘If you don’t have boundaries, you may need to look at that… or peel yourself out of it. That’s what I’ve been doing is peeling myself out of all the conditioning.’
