Jim Carrey’s decision to retire isn’t so black and white.
The beloved actor, 62, backtracked his 2022 comment about being “fairly serious” about retiring, admitting that it’s hard to officially leave showbusiness.
“You can’t be definite about these things,” he recently told Comicbook.com.
“I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about ‘power-resting.’ Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just — things tend to change.”
“It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money… But I never know,” he added, referencing his interview with the Associated Press where he joked he only took on “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” because he needed money.
However, the comedian doubled down on his sarcasm, telling Comicbooks.com that he “gambled” away his millions.
“Flea circuses are my thing,” he joked.
While it’s unclear how much he was paid for his latest film, Carrey once made $20 million per project.
In fact, the “Mask” actor already has his next movie lined up. He is currently in pre-production for David Robert Mitchell’s mystery “Evergreen Pines and the Fading Summer.”
After that’s finished, he would be open to playing the Grinch again thanks to the advancements in CGI.
“If we can figure out ‘The Grinch’… The thing about it is that, on the day, I had to do that with a ton of makeup, and I could hardly breathe, and it was an extremely excruciating process,” he explained.
“The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids, it’s for the kids, it’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do some other things.”
Carrey first revealed he was “fairly serious” about retiring from acting in 2022, telling “Access Hollywood” that he had done “enough” and wanted to pursue other creative endeavors.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3” hits theaters Dec. 20.
