Jennifer Lawrence rehomed her beloved pet dog for the safety of her family.
“Anyway, after I had a kid, our dogs became so scary, you know?” Lawrence, 35, said during a Die My Love film Q&A at New York City’s 92Y on Wednesday, January 7. “It’s almost, like, I don’t recognize dogs right now. I just see them as a threat.”
She added, “One of them bit my son, and that made me want to obliterate the dog.”
Lawrence has been married to her husband, Cooke Maroney, since 2019, three years before welcoming son Cy.
“My heart has stretched to a capacity that I didn’t know about. I include my husband in that. And then they’re both just, like, out there — walking around, crossing streets,” the Oscar winner said of motherhood in a 2022 interview with Vogue. “He’s gonna drive one day. He’s gonna be a stupid teenager and be behind the wheel of a car. And I’m just gonna be like, ‘Good night!’ You know? Like, who sleeps?”
She continued, “The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over. Like, Now is day one of my life. I just stared. I was just so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing. They’re these pink, swollen, fragile little survivors.”
After Lawrence went back to work after Cy’s birth, she internally faced “mom guilt.”
“Every day of being a mom, I feel awful,” she told Variety in June 2022. “I feel guilty. I’m playing with him and I’m like, ‘Is this what he wants to be doing? Should we be outside?’ We’re outside [and I’m like], ‘What if he’s cold? What if he’s going to get sick? Should we be inside? Is this enough? Is this developing your brain enough?’”
Us Weekly confirmed two years later in October 2024 that Lawrence and Maroney, 41, were expecting again. They welcomed baby No. 2 last year, keeping details about their infant’s birth and name under wraps.
Amid her pregnancy, Lawrence also filmed Die My Love opposite Robert Pattinson.
“A part of what she’s going through is the hormonal imbalance that comes with postpartum, but she’s also having an identity crisis. ‘Who am I as a mother? Who am I as a wife? Who am I as a sexual person to my husband? Who am I as a creative?’” Lawrence said during a Cannes Film Festival press conference in May 2025. “I think, she’s plagued with this feeling that she’s disappearing.”
According to the actress, she inherently related to her Die My Love character.
“For me, I was four-and-a-half, five months pregnant when we shot, I had great hormones,” she recalled. “I was feeling great, which really was the only way I would be able to dip into some of this visceral emotion. As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do as opposed to what she would do, and it was just heartbreaking.”
As Lawrence and Maroney raise their two children, they also got a pet cat after giving up their family canine.
“I have a cat,” she added on Wednesday. “I feel like they’re so misunderstood in that they are a**holes and people who don’t like cats don’t get that is what is so funny.”
