In 2003, Adrien Brody won his first Oscar for Best Actor for his performance as a Holocaust survivor in The Pianist.
Earlier this year, history repeated itself as Brody took home a second Best Actor trophy for his leading role as another Holocaust survivor in The Brutalist.
The Brutalist was a modest success with a $49.3 million box office gross worldwide and one of the Best Picture contenders at the Oscars. But it didn’t reach as large audience of an audience as it deserved.
That may change now that Max has set a streaming premiere for The Brutalist and it’s coming up sooner than you may expect.
When Is ‘The Brutalist’ Streaming?
The Brutalist will make its streaming debut on Max on Friday, May 16. And because A24’s deal is with both HBO and Max, The Brutalist will also be arriving on the cable channel the next day.
HBO will broadcast its first screening of The Brutalist on Saturday, May 17, at 5pm PT/8pm ET. The premium cable channel will also air repeat showings of The Brutalist throughout May.
What Is ‘The Brutalist’ About?
It’s the story of László Toth (Brody), a Jewish man who was considered a visionary architect before he had to flee Europe and the Nazi regime. He was also separated from his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) and forced to emigrate to the United States alone.
Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce), a wealthy industrialist, recognizes László’s talent and offers him the chance to reclaim his legacy as an architect under his employ. However, Van Buren is a domineering boss and physically abusive towards László. That’s a high price for László to pay, but he has nowhere else to turn.
Who Stars in ‘The Brutalist’?
In addition to Brody, Jones and Pearce, the cast includes supporting turns by Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach de Bankolé and Alessandro Nivola.
Who Is the Creative Team Behind ‘The Brutalist’?
Brady Corbet directed the film and co-wrote the script with Mona Fastvold. Daniel Blumberg won an Oscar for composing The Brutalist’s score, while cinematographer Lol Crawley was also a winner at the Academy Awards.
