Local actor Elvin Ng recently made a tribute to his 17-year-old dog Bagel, sharing photos of himself crying during his pet’s last moments.

The 45-year-old shared in an Instagram post on Aug 18 that Bagel was his first dog and was adopted from a shelter nine years ago.

“Life was not always easy for her, but she was a real tough beagle who never grimaced over any pain or yelped over any injection. She opened up, made eye contact, danced and hopped around happily in the room after joining us,” he said.

Elvin said his vet had advised euthanasia as Bagel was likely in pain and suffering.

Making the call was difficult, he recalled.

“I feel guilty, also because I felt I could have done better for her in her later years as she couldn’t be in the room so much due to her recurring skin issues and condition,” he said.

“I wish for Bagel to be happy and free now wherever she is, and continue to be the unassuming and happy-go-lucky character that she was even in the face of adversity and challenges.”

On the same day, local host Lee Teng, 44, also shared that his pet dog Bali had died.

In 2013, Lee Teng took one-year-old Bali in because he didn’t want the latter to become a stray dog after his owner had to return to their home country.

“I never imagined that this would last for 13 years. You went from being someone else’s dog to becoming part of our family, becoming our ‘guardian beast’ who silently protected us,” he wrote, adding that Bali suddenly fell ill a few weeks ago.

“Hearing you groan every day was heartbreaking. I just took you to the vet for a follow-up appointment the day before yesterday, hoping you could be more comfortable and not suffer so much.”

Lee Teng said Bali died while he was overseas.

“Perhaps you didn’t want me to see you leave this world… It’s a regret I couldn’t be by your side in the end. May you no longer suffer pain,” he said.

“Go to heaven, eat well, drink well, run well, and don’t tilt your head and bite your paws anymore. Rest in peace. We will always miss you.”
