The Small Bow Podcast — a recovery-inspired series launched by Gawker alum A.J. Daulerio — is aiming for a new audience by relaunching as a video-first podcast on YouTube.
The move, which marks the latest podcast to shoot for where audience attention has migrated, comes close to five years after Daulerio debuted The Small Bow as an audio series that was inspired by his newsletter of the same name that was, in turn, inspired by his experience in rehab from substance abuse.
“Since the beginning, The Small Bow has expanded the conversations around recovery and mental health, creating opportunities for our guests to tell parts of their personal challenges and triumphs they wouldn’t share anywhere else,” Daulerio explains. “This relaunch with the support of AND Media and Rabbit Grin Productions marks an exciting new chapter for the show and for the community that’s grown around it.”
Offers his collaborators at Rabbit Grin, Rob Holysz and Jeph Porter: “We’re excited to be working with A.J. to bring The Small Bow’s unique take on recovery to a new audience. These are conversations that matter, and A.J. has a way of making them feel accessible and real. Helping stories like these reach more people is exactly the kind of work we love doing.”
To pump the relaunch, Daulerio sat down with Jenn Sterger, a comedian, host, TV personality and onetime Sports Illustrated columnist and staff writer. “In 2010, I ruined her life,” Daulerio writes in the episode’s official description. “Since then, Jenn and I have rebuilt our friendship (with the help of a dog), and I’m grateful to her for coming on the show. We talk about public shame, forgiveness and how hard it is to let go of what other people think.”
Future episodes are expected to explore addiction and sobriety “beyond stereotypes, identity shifts and ego, burnout and grief, car crashes and life detours and the messy, funny, uncomfortable realities of being human.” Previous guests of The Small Bow include How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor, New York Times best-selling author Mary H.K. Choi (Permanent Record, Emergency Contact), American Fiction’s Oscar-winning filmmaker Cord Jefferson, and Phish frontman Trey Anastasio.
New episodes of The Small Bow Podcast drop every Wednesday and can be found on any podcast platform or on the series’ official YouTube channel.
