Rio Peng, former member of Taiwanese pop group 5566, announced that he and his wife, Taiwan Glass heiress Tina Lin, have been “separated for some time”, ending their 14-year marriage.

An Instagram Story shared by Rio on Friday (Aug 7) captioned: “Tina and I have been separated for some time now, but we are still a loving family.

“We give each other our deepest blessings and support each other. We will accompany and protect our children as they grow up.”

The 48-year-old added that they would not be responding further to the matter.

Rio and Lin tied the knot in 2012 and have two children together.

A friend of Lin’s allegedly said that the separation was suspected to have been due to Rio’s “lack of significant achievements” and initiative over the years, according to Chinese news website Next Apple News.

The pair had reportedly ended their marriage quietly, with news of their separation circulating among their social circles, although neither had confirmed it publicly.

Their two children are currently primarily in Lin’s care, reported the Chinese news website.

Rio was a member of 5566 until he left the group in 2003 after sustaining a serious back injury while filming a variety show.

The group debuted in 2002 as a five-member act and also included Tony Sun, Zax Wang, Jason Hsu and Sam Wang.

Rio previously made headlines in 2020 after he was spotted spending a lot of time with a mystery woman, sparking rumours of infidelity, reported Taiwanese media.
