Chaos before the calm?
Cynthia Koh might have just experienced a huge emotional roller coaster in the last 24 hours prior to her wellness trip to Bangkok, Thailand.
The 52-year-old local actress posted a photo on her Instagram Story yesterday (Sept 28) of a blue duffel bag, where she wrote: “Make a guess where I’m heading to tomorrow.”
She also provided an interactive option for her followers to choose with the text: “Bringing my baggage on board. Among the options are Japan, Bangkok, Australia and Europe.”
Cynthia posted another Story a few hours later, sharing that she is heading to Bangkok today.
She wrote: “I am attending a wellness retreat. Looking at the situation, I had to pull out Plan B which is to pack my bag up to 7kg and I don’t need to wait for my luggage.”
She reposted a video from a Thai content creator who shared about the luggage delay situation at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Bangkok Post reported yesterday that the city-wide flooding had prevented many airport staff employed by Thai Airways from reporting to work, which resulted in flight delays over the past weekend, with some passengers waiting four to six hours for their baggage.
Soldiers were deployed to speed up the handling of luggage at the airport.
Cynthia then shared in a separate post that the airline she was taking — revealed to be Thai Airways later — allowed up to 7kg of carry-on baggage, which she would be utilising so that she won’t have to check in any.
“I don’t want to join the Bangkok airport chaos,” she wrote in the caption of the post, sharing in the video that she had managed to pack all she needed for a 10-day trip, including her skincare products.
She added she would be figuring out how to navigate the city in the wet weather, assuming that most shops would be closed because of the floods.
This morning, Cynthia woke up to bad news.
“My flight was cancelled. No text, no email… I keyed in the departure into my iChangi (app) and I got this rude shock. Calling hotline, no one answered on Thai Airways. All their flights are cancelled today, but the rest of the aircraft are departing… How?,” she wrote in another Instagram Story.
Thai Airways announced early this morning that they had cancelled flights to and from Bangkok today and tomorrow due to the floods.
Cynthia shared later that she bought a Scoot flight bound for Bangkok today.
She wrote: “The retreat didn’t cancel the event so I just have to stay calm and navigate. I’m not upset though, I think it’s good that one must experience this to handle such a situation.”

While at Changi Airport’s departure hall with her carry-on duffel bag, she shared that Thai Airways had arranged for her to take a Singapore Airlines flight to Bangkok instead as both carriers are members of Star Alliance.
“Because I was so kiasu right, I went to buy a Scoot flight, so I would just buang (discard) the Scoot flight, it’s okay,” Cynthia said, adding she has learned from the experience.
She reached Bangkok in the afternoon, where she posted another Story with the caption: “Phew I made it…”
She said in the video that the weather at the airport is sunny and it is not flooding.
“But I did see a lot of people waiting for their baggage. It seems that the baggage situation is slowly trying to clear up,” she recounted, encouraging those who are travelling to and from Bangkok today and the next few days to consider travelling lighter.
