Cassandra See was inspired to produce upcoming microdrama BingBingBiangBiang Kopidiam after coming across videos of public conflicts, including the one involving her friend Huang Yiliang.
The 55-year-old local actress told AsiaOne recently at the press conference held at Singapore Expo: “We want to give back to society and spread positivity. Yiliang’s incident gave us the idea (to film the microdrama) because he was so misunderstood… When people see a video, they may just understand from one point of view.
“We hope to film our microdrama in such a way that also reflects daily conflicts seen on social media and hopefully encourage people to not fight.”
Former actor Yiliang, 65, changed careers in February 2026 when he opened a seafood zichar stall Old Fisherman at Circuit Road Hawker Centre. He got into a dispute with the owner of the neighbouring chicken rice stall in May which escalated into him being assaulted.
Bing Bing Biang Biang Squad, which is producing the series, is a live commerce channel founded by Cassandra as well as local actors Jason Oh and Constance Song.
BingBingBiangBiang Kopidiam centres on first-time hawker Ah Liang (Yiliang), who rents a “cursed” stall at a neighbourhood coffee shop to sell crab bee hoon and his daily interactions with his customers and other stall owners.
The series is helmed by veteran director-producer Michael Woo, who is known for producing local sitcoms including Don’t Worry, Be Happy (1996 – 2002).
Cassandra as well as veteran actors Jason, Constance, Jin Yinji, Cherie Lim, Apple Hong, Tang Miaoling and Joy Yak will also be starring in the microdrama.
Desire to act
Cassandra said the cast members were all very excited about the series when she first told them about it.
She explained: “A lot of artistes have a desire to act. I believe a lot of us were hoping we could all come back to do something together.
“However, some of us may not be able to commit to a long drama, but this microdrama is something short and sweet. We can fulfil our wish to act for a short while and have fun at the same time.”
The microdrama will have an estimated 100 episodes with a three-minute runtime each.
Cassandra shared that it was Jason who brought up the idea of casting Yiliang.
“When Jason first told me he was going to get Yiliang to join, I told him, ‘Are you kidding me? It’s so impossible.’ I really thought it was impossible because Yiliang is so busy and he’s been out of touch with showbiz for so long… But in the end, Jason really managed to convince him,” she added.
While the microdrama is now sponsored by tour agency Travel Star, Cassandra revealed they didn’t have sponsors initially and she had told her actor friends she wouldn’t be able to pay them.
She added: “I am grateful to them because when I told them we wouldn’t be able to pay them for filming, they were all okay with it. It’s all because of the close friendship that we have.
“But I also told them if this goes well [and we earn money], everyone will get the same payment.”
Spread positivity and goodness

Filming is conducted every Monday at Chill Bar SG at Henderson Road, where they would also gather to look at their scripts together.
Cassandra said the coffee shop belongs to a long-time friend, who lets them film in the vicinity in the afternoon during non-peak hours.
“Everyone had so much fun during filming. There is no stress at all when we know we are doing this for fun… Yinji told me she was very happy because she got to come out to do some activities,” she recounted.
While the microdrama follows a general plot, the team will also be considering subplots based on their investors’ requests.
Ultimately, Cassandra said the team’s goal is to spread positivity to their audiences.
She concluded: “If you help people to think positively, they will keep coming back. We just want to spread goodness. I believe that when you spread and do good, it will follow you.”
