Alexa PenaVega shared a heartbreaking photo of herself holding her stillborn baby one year after the infant tragically died.
In a pic posted to Instagram over the weekend, the “Spy Kids” actress could be seen crying while holding the little one, named Indy Rex PenaVega, in the hospital.
“This was the most painful moment I have ever experienced,” she captioned the post. “I remember it feeling so hard to breathe. Such a deep aching pain… How was this real? It didn’t feel real. Every emotion flooded in at once.”
Alexa, who welcomed Indy and three other children with husband Carlos PenaVega, explained that even though she and her family were suffering a “devastating loss,” they still felt a “natural peace.”
“It was all out of our control,” she wrote. “We had to give it all over to God. The burden was too heavy for us to carry so He took the weight off of us and draped us in His peace.”
The “Sleepover” actress, 36, reflected on how her family’s lives had changed over the last year and shared that she’s seen “LIFE come out of her life.”
“We watched people heal because of Indy. We watched grief lifted because of Indy. We watched relationships be restored… God gave her life SO MUCH FRUIT … so much meaning and purpose,” she continued.
“Our sweet girl is celebrating with Jesus today. And While we still mourn and wish we had her in our arms… we know she is waiting for us in a place that is beyond anything we can imagine. Jeremiah 29:11.”
Alexa also posted a black-and-white photo of her and Carlos’ three children –– sons Ocean, 8, Kingston, 5, and daughter Rio, 3 –– holding a photo of the late newborn.
“Our forever world changer 🤍 Happy heavenly birthday baby girl,” she wrote over the photo on her Instagram Story.
Meanwhile, Carlos, 35, also paid tribute to his late daughter by posting a similar photo of his three kids looking at a picture of their late sibling.
“Happy heavenly birthday Indy girl. 🤍Our little world changer. Psalm 34:18,” he captioned his post.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, announced the loss of their fourth child shortly after her birth in April 2024.
“After a beautiful and peaceful delivery our daughter ‘Indy’ was born at rest,” they wrote at the time. “This little girl has already changed our lives in so many ways. She was absolutely beautiful. And looked just like daddy. Dark hair and all.”
Shortly afterward, Alexa shared an emotional video where she explained that the ordeal was the “most traumatic thing” she and Carlos have been through.
“I don’t think I’ve experienced anything quite like this, and I hope to never experience anything like this again,” she said last May, before clarifying that her family has “never been stronger.”
