The Devil Wears Prada star Adrian Grenier has broken his silence after being left out of the iconic 2006 film’s upcoming sequel.
The actor, 49, lamented about not being asked to reprise his role as the boyfriend of Anne Hathaway’s character Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada 2 in a new interview with PageSix.
As seen in the recently released trailer for the upcoming sequel, Hathaway’s Andy has a newfound love interest, and it’s no longer Grenier’s character Nate Cooper.
Grenier admitted that it was a ‘disappointment’ that he was snubbed but said he remained optimistic he would ‘obviously’ get a callback in the future for a spinoff.
He also said that he believed that he ‘didn’t get the call’ to return for the sequel because of the ‘backlash’ towards his character’s actions in the original film.
‘We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we’re in it,’ he said. ‘Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.’

The long-awaited sequel features many of the original stars in their iconic roles, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci
‘But I think that just leaves room for a spinoff,’ he added. ‘Either way, it’s a disappointment. Either way, it leaves room for a beautiful spinoff in which Nate has his own film.’
Fans of the original flick previously expressed distaste for his character Nate being an unsupportive, self-centered boyfriend.
Many years after the release of the movie, Grenier opened up about his reaction to that seemingly popular opinion.
‘I didn’t see some of the subtleties and the nuance of this character and what it represented in the film until the masses came online and started to push against the character and throw him under the bus, and I got flak,’ he told Entertainment Weekly in June 2021.
‘All those memes that came out were shocking to me,’ he admitted over a decade after the original film’s release.
‘It hadn’t occurred to me until I started to really think about it,’ he continued. ‘And perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time.’
He admitted that his character was ‘very selfish and self-involved.’ ‘He wasn’t extending himself to support Andy in her career,’ he said after he took ‘time to reflect’ about his character’s ‘shortcomings.’

He theorized that because his character was not popular among fans of the film, he did not receive a call for the sequel
He said after ‘much deliberation,’ he ended up agreeing to ‘the truth in that perspective.’
In the first movie, Andy and Nate broke up but reconnected at the end before she quit her job as Miranda’s assistant.
In their final meetup, the widely disliked boyfriend character revealed he was moving to Chicago for a new chef gig.
Following the 2006 release of the original movie, Grenier went on to star in Entourage, Clickbait among many others and also added producing, directing and environmental activism to his resume.
He is also a father to two children and shares sons Seiko, two, and Evren, nearly one, with his wife Jordan Roemmele.
He currently resides on a ranch in Texas with his wife, whom he married in 2022, and their kids.
Grenier is currently working on a new short film, Self Custody, featuring leading star and director Garrett Patten as a struggling father desperately trying to reclaim an old bitcoin bonus worth millions of dollars.
