A Look Back at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Love Story, From a Friendship Bracelet to a Star-Studded Wedding

How their love story started almost sounds like something out of a rom-com (or even one of Taylor Swift’s love songs). It all began in July 2023, when Travis attended Swift’s Eras Tour show at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. He went to the concert with fellow Chiefs player Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes.

After, Travis shared on an episode of his New Heights podcast, which he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce, that he tried to give the singer his number via a friendship bracelet (which has become a tradition at Swift’s concerts) but failed.

“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she songs. So I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” he said. “But I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it.”

Though Swift didn’t receive the bracelet, she definitely got Travis’ message thanks to a few people in the singer’s close circle. “There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: ‘Yo! Did you know he was coming?’ I had somebody playing Cupid,” the football player told The Wall Street Journal in November 2023.

Once they got in contact, one thing led to another. Swift told Time Magazine in December 2023 that they started hanging out shortly after “Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast.” She added, “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”

Though neither has revealed specific details about their first date, Travis also told the WSJ that it happened in New York City. “When I met her in New York, we had already kind of been talking,” he shared, “so I knew we could have a nice dinner and, like, a conversation, and what goes from there will go from there.”

While their first date technically already happened, up until this point, their relationship was only speculative in the public’s eyes. But that all changed when the pair broke the internet with Swift’s surprise appearance at his first NFL game, when the Chiefs took on the Bears in September 2023. The singer was spotted cheering on Travis and his team while sitting in his family’s suite, next to his mother, Donna Kelce.

“By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” Swift previously told Time. “I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

Travis also later praised Swift for her support at the game, saying she was “pretty ballsy” for her appearance. “I just thought it was awesome how everybody in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her, the friends and family,” Travis added on his New Heights podcast. “She looked amazing. Everybody was talking about her in a great light and on top of that, you know, the day went perfect for Chiefs fans. We script it all, ladies and gentlemen. It was just impressive.”

One thing about this couple, they’re not shy about publicly showing their support for one another. Swift has regularly made appearances at Chiefs games, wearing the team’s colors and all, since their relationship began, even when she was circling around the globe on the Eras Tour, which ran until December 2024.

She also made sure not to miss the two biggest games for Travis over the last three years: Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas in 2024 and Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans in 2025. Though the Chiefs lost the latter, she was still seen in a box with his family, cheering for her man. And when they won in 2024, she even met him on the field after to celebrate the championship moment.

“Thank you for coming,” Travis could be heard telling his girl after they embraced on the field, per videos shared on social media. “Thank you for making it halfway across the world. You’re the best baby. The absolute best.” 

It was nothing out of the ordinary seeing Kelce support Swift at her Eras Tour shows when his football schedule allowed, but his appearance at one of her London concerts was extra special. He surprised fans when he came out onstage during a performance of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” leading to loud roars across Wembley Stadium.

Sporting a tuxedo and sparkly top hat, the performance saw him pick Swift up and carry her for her outfit-change bit. Kelce later shared on his New Heights podcast that it was his idea initially to join her onstage. “I initially mentioned it to Tay,” he said. “I was like, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era?’”

He recalled Swift initially laughing at the idea before asking, “Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?” Things took off from there after he quickly replied that he’d “love to do that.”

Swift shocked fans when it was revealed that she would be making a guest appearance on her then-boyfriend’s popular New Heights podcast, marking the first time the pair had spoken at length together publicly. Over the extensive two-hour-long conversation, she announced her The Life of a Showgirl album, chatted about her record-breaking Eras Tour and her relationship with Kelce, among other topics.

Specifically on the beginning of her love story with the NFL star, Swift said Kelce using his podcast as “his personal dating app” was “such a wild romantic gesture.” And everyone knows the singer loves a romantic gesture, just based on the lyrics in her songs.

“This felt more like I was in an ‘80s John Hughes movie and he was just like, standing outside of my window with a boombox,” she added. “I was like ‘if this guy isn’t crazy,’ this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.’”

And in one of Swift’s earliest hits, 2008’s “Love Story,” the singer actually wrote about getting engaged one day. “He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said, ‘Marry me, Juliet [Taylor], you’ll never have to be alone. I love you and that’s all I really know,’” her lyrics read.

Well. that special moment officially happened in August 2025. The pair shared a carousel of photos on Instagram of the moment Kelce got down on one knee in a rose garden at his private Kansas estate. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the post’s caption read.

The post instantly sent the internet into a frenzy, with fans congratulating the happy couple but also doing a deep dive on Swift’s massive diamond engagement ring.

Though fans are still waiting for the couple to make their official awards red carpet debut, they did make their awards show debut at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards. After Swift walked the red carpet alone, Kelce was spotted sitting with his fiancée inside Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.

The singer ended up being the big winner of the night, going home with seven wins, including pop album of the year. During her acceptance speech, she also took a moment to shout out Kelce. “This album probably also feels very happy and confident and free because that’s the way that I get to feel every single day of my life, because of my fiancé, who’s here tonight,” she said of The Life of a Showgirl.

Kelce isn’t Swift’s fiancé anymore because he’s her husband, as of July 3, 2026. The couple tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

After they said “I do” in front of about 1,000 guests, a special sign that read “JusT&T Married!” appeared on screens outside the Garden that evening. The singer’s longtime publicist later revealed that both Swift and Kelce wore custom haute couture looks by Jonathan Anderson for Christian Dior on their big day.

As for other details, Adam Sandler officiated the wedding while Swift and Kelce’s brothers, Austin Swift and Jason Kelce, served as the man of honor and best man, respectively. On the entertainment front, Swift reportedly performed with Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney.

So, in the words of Swift, it looks like “it’s gonna be forever…”
