Hong Kong singer G.E.M. was singing mid-way when a stage lift malfunctioned during her fourth concert in Shenzhen, China, on Sept 19.
In videos posted by concertgoers on social media, the stage lift jams for a few seconds before moving up and down. Afterwards, it made a slow descend but started shaking.
G.E.M., 35, can be seen gripping on to one of the handlebars while she sang.
After the song, she asked her fans: “Do you guys know what happened just now?”
She told them the lift had broken down and made loud noises, adding: “My legs are still shaking now. I was so scared. When I was in the lift, I felt like I was about to pee my pants on stage. It was terrifying!”
She said the lift has been part of more than 90 of her shows and never malfunctioned until then.
But getting off the lift and seeing her fans helped. “When I saw you, I felt that everything could be left in the past and there was no need to remember it.”
Later on she added: “In life, you never know when you will encounter some small challenges that you have never gone through before, but we can still face them with a smile.”
G.E.M. will be performing 12 shows in Shenzhen, the final leg of her I Am Gloria tour, which started in 2023.
