California, here we come — again… possibly? hopefully? Ben McKenzie is weighing in on whether he’d be interested in returning to The O.C.
In a new interview with on KIIS 1065, McKenzie was asked by the host if he would be open to “re-doing” The O.C. by returning as “one of the dads,” referencing Peter Gallagher’s Sandy Cohen role.
“I don’t know that there has ever been serious talks, but I’d be up for it, sure,” he responded. “Yeah, I think so, under the right circumstances. It was a great show. We had a great time. I learned a lot. I was so young. We were all young.”
He added that his 10-year-old child, whom he shares with actress Morena Baccarin and briefly appeared in three episodes of season three, “loved it.”
“I now have kids come up to me, teenagers, and they talk about what a fan they are of the show. ‘You weren’t even alive when it came out,’” McKenzie continued. “They watch it with their parents.”
The 47-year-old’s comments come after Mischa Barton, who played his on-again, off-again love interest, Marissa Cooper, recently teased that a possible reunion might be coming.
During the Fox teen drama’s four-season run from 2003 to 2007 — named one of the best teen dramas of all time by The Hollywood Reporter — McKenzie played Ryan Atwood, a troubled teen from Chino, California, who is taken in by his public defender Sandy and his family. Ryan becomes like a brother to Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) and is part of the show’s central group alongside Summer Roberts (Rachel Bilson) and Marissa.
McKenzie went on to lead the TV series Southland and Gotham following The O.C. He is currently promoting his documentary about the crypto industry, Everyone Is Lying to You for Money.
