Prince William reportedly won’t participate in any films about his late mother, Princess Diana, as rumors swirl that Prince Harry has plans for a documentary.
The Prince of Wales declined “several offers to make or appear in documentary tributes” about his mother as the date approaches to mark the 30th anniversary of her death, according to the Times.
The outlet reported that William, 44, wants to avoid a situation where he and his estranged brother, Harry, are “pitted against each other” during film-making.
The future king reportedly believes that his tributes for Diana’s 20th death anniversary in 2017 were his public “catharsis.”
William’s close friends said the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death next August is “a difficult situation for him” and that he remains “really emotional” about her tragic passing.
The dad of three has not yet decided how he will commemorate his mother and he may do it privately or formally.
Diana died from massive internal injuries after a high-speed car crash as paparazzi chased her in August 1997. She was 36.
Rumors have swirled that the late Princess of Wales’ youngest son, Harry, is planning to make a documentary about his mom.
Page Six exclusively reported that the Duke of Sussex, 42, has been “wooing” his uncle Charles Spencer, who recently released a memoir about his late sister, Diana.
“What Harry and Meghan are actually doing back in the UK is finally revealed — they are making a Diana film, and Spencer is likely being lined up as its star,” royal journalist Tom Sykes exclusively told us.
Spencer also wrote in the book that he declined “endless” requests to appear in documentaries about Diana — including one from a “nephew,” though he didn’t specify whether it was William or Harry.
Additionally, a source told the Telegraph that Harry has approached some of Diana’s friends to take part in a potential film.
“He is still considering the most meaningful way to honor her legacy during this important anniversary year,” a source told the outlet, adding that he’s discussed a number of possible projects aside from a film.
The outlet reported that the alleged film would likely be produced by Harry and his wife Meghan Markle’s Archewell Productions and would probably be bought by Netflix.
