With the James Bond franchise being passed to Amazon MGM and work on the next film already underway, avid Bond fans are excited to know just who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

The Euro Weekly News recently reported that, following a poll by Amazon, the public’s number one choice for the ‘shaken not stirred’ spy was one Henry Cavill.  Interestingly, Mr Cavill actually auditioned to play James Bond back in 2005, but it was not to be on account of him being too young.

Will Henry Cavill finally get to play James Bond?

Makes you wonder what would have happened if he had portrayed the British spy with the licence to kill. Presumably, we would never have seen him play the part that he was born to and is now most famous for.  I am, of course, referring to Zack Snyder’s Superman. So now that he is a little more mature, will he get his chance a second time around?

The bookies certainly think so and have placed him as the odds-on favourite at 3/1. The next closest is Theo James at 11/2, and fans of the Divergent Series will remember Theo for his role as Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton.  Then there is  Jack Lowden, with odds of 7/1, who completes the top three contenders.  Mr Lowden first found fame for his role in the UK miniseries War and Peace.  Could Jack Lowden follow in the footsteps of Sean Connery and provide us with another Scottish James Bond?

Who are the candidates for the next James Bond?

All in all there are 13 actors tipped to play the next 007 and the list includes some very well-known actors.  Names such as James Norton, Tom Hardy, Richard Madden, Callum Turner, and Bridgerton heartthrob Rege-Jean Page, among others.

However, there may yet be a few more contenders as it has been suggested that the next film will be based on a story from Bond’s younger days.  According to The Sun, they want to draw a line under the last Daniel Craig film, which Bond fans will remember ended with his self-sacrifice.  Instead, they are considering returning to a more glamorous era, perhaps even the 1960s, when the franchise first began.

Were this to happen, it would naturally follow that a much younger actor will be required to play the next James Bond (oh the irony, Henry Cavill!).  Already, some new names are being bandied about, and these include another superhero actor – this time, that of Spiderman’s Tom Holland.  Other names reportedly in the frame are Bridget Jones star Leo Woodall and SAS Rogue Heroes’ Connor Swindells.

Over to you – If it were up to you, who would you cast as the next James Bond?
