Kellie Pickler’s husband, Kyle Jacobs, was a behind-the-scenes country star in his own right prior to his death at age 49 in February 2023.

The Nashville Police Department confirmed that Jacobs died by suicide in the home he shared with Pickler. A statement from the law enforcement revealed that Pickler and her personal assistant went looking for Jacobs, finding the door to his office locked. Her assistant called 911. (Pickler is currently in a court battle against Jacobs’ parents over his personal effects in the aftermath of his death.)

Jacobs did live his life directly in the spotlight like his wife, he was revered as a successful songwriter, guitarist and pianist who cowrote hit songs for country music’s elite. The Minnesota native penned tracks for artists including Kelly Clarkson, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks.

When Jacobs first was introduced to Pickler in the early 2000s through a mutual friend, he had no hesitation about using his success in the industry to get her attention. His first pickup line was, “Hi, I’m Kyle. I’m a songwriter,” he told Us Weekly exclusively in a December 2015 interview.

The musician was born in Bloomington, Minnesota.

2. He Was a Success Story

Jacobs was a country songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and pianist. He served as cowriter on various hit songs throughout his career including Brooks’ “More Than a Memory,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard country Singles chart. He also shared rights on Kimberely Locke’s “8th World Wonder” as well as tracks by Clarkson, McGraw, Trace Adkins, Craig Morgan and wife Pickler.

3. He Was a TV Star

Jacobs and the “Red High Heels” artist starred on the CMT reality series, I Love Kellie Pickler, together from November 2015 to October 2017.

4. He Wasn’t Just a Musician

The songwriter enjoyed hunting and fishing on his time off, according to his social media pages.

“Thank you Homer, Alaska and @ninilchikcharters for the trip of a lifetime … 5 days and nights staying on a boat, waking up fishing for halibut, cod, rockfish and yelloweye … and then walking through bear country for miles and miles every day,” Jacobs wrote via Instagram in June 2021 alongside a photo of himself dressed in camouflage gear. “So beautiful and awesome … And everywhere I looked I heard God say, ‘See? Look at what was created for you…’ Feeling very blessed.”

5. He and Kellie Pickler Didn’t Have Kids

But they were pet parents. According to his Instagram posts, Jacobs and Pickler shared three dogs: Abby, Peanut and Chewbacca.
