We tried Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s skincare for men

We’re smelling (and scrubbing, and slathering) what The Rock is cooking.

Since launching his Papatui skin care line in 2024, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has continued to roll out new products — all while contributing to a larger narrative about normalizing self-care for men.

“So many times I would say, ‘Dude, why are we whispering [about skin care]? It’s okay,’” he told People at launch time. “Papatui has allowed me to encourage just a more open, greater conversation about skin care and grooming.”

With most products ringing in at under $15 at Target and Amazon, the line’s prices are plenty appealing. But as we know well, not all celebrity skin care lines are actually worth the hype — so we enlisted the men of The Post’s commerce team to put The Rock’s lotions and potions to the test for two full weeks.

Below, find out what they thought of the products.

“I am relatively active and play softball multiple times per week all year round. I wanted a deodorant that would keep me smelling fresh all day until I hit the field (and thereafter). Even after doubleheaders, I was able to still smell the fresh coconut scent after a full day in the office. This proves Papatui can stand up to the toughest tasks all day. With over-the-counter brands like Old Spice, I tend to get irritation or mild rashes after sweating a lot. I have actually had to steer clear of the gel-based deodorants. Papatui gave me no such irritation.” — Frank Massaro, Commerce Partnerships Manager

“I put this to the test against the August Florida heat. Possibly TMI, but I have gone years without regularly wearing any kind of underarm protection because my skin tends to get irritated with every brand I tried. This product may change all that. “I have not had a skin care routine in some time, but I understand exfoliation is an important part of getting those layers of dirt and sweat off. I could feel the face scrub doing its job, with the coarse minerals stripping away all of that dirt. After washing, I felt pure and squeaky clean. I still need to use this a bit more regularly, but I feel the scrub is up to the task!” — Frank

“I never met a face scrub I didn’t love. Of all the products I tested on my face, I feel like the combination of the scrub and the moisturizer had the biggest impact on my skin.” — Adam

“It was very tough for me to pick a favorite product between this and the deodorant. I have tried several way more costly moisturizers to help me with the dry skin I tend to experience where my facial hair grows in, and this product was far more effective at taking care of that issue than other brands’. I fully plan to add this into my daily routine.” — Adam

“I have olive skin and I am used to the sun, so in my younger years, SPF was always something I skipped out on. Plus, it’s an extra step — and who has time for that?! With Papatui’s dual moisturizer and SPF, the two steps are combined into one. I originally was not sure how much to use, and on my first few uses I actually used a bit too much, making it hard to blend in. Overall, my face maintained a dewy and soft feel throughout the day on every use. There was no irritation when I would get sweat in my eyes while playing softball, either.” — Frank

“These may have been some of my favorite products in the lot I tested. I have never worn under-eye patches before, but I always am seeing influencers online and folks in the wild wearing these. I can fully say: I finally get the hype. I tested these during a wedding weekend, and let’s just say after a few rehearsal-dinner beverages and a late night, the eye patches had a tall task ahead. They felt so cooling and wonderful on my face when applied — like a splash of cold water in the morning to really wake you up. I definitely felt like the puffiness was reduced, or at least it felt that way due to how cold the patches feel.” — Frank

“These will definitely come in handy when traveling on overnight flights or whenever you have a rough night’s rest.” — Adam

The final verdict

Both of our testers found the skin care line easy to use, even though it was their first time experimenting with certain products. The deodorant, eye masks and SPF moisturizer were particular favorites, while the cleanser was both testers’ least favorite of the bunch.

“I have tried to establish a regular skin care routine at several points in my life, but ultimately I fail to keep the products in my daily schedule,” Adam said. “After weeks of trying out these Papatui offerings, it feels like I’m ready to commit again.”

“The one-two punch of the scrub and moisturizer having a noticeable effect on my skin so quickly proved them worthy of becoming a regular habit,” he added. “Between the pricing and the wide availability of the products, Papatui absolutely has my stamp of approval multiple times over.”

How we tested

Both testers tried the Papatui products out over a period of two weeks, ahead of everything from attending a wedding to playing a softball game — all while keeping the following factors in mind.

• Staying power: How did the formulas stand up to busy office days and after-work activities?
• Ease of use: Were the products self-explanatory, even for men who don’t usually use much skin care?
