Indian actor and film director Manoj Kumar, who gained immense popularity for his patriotic films, is no more. The star, who was often referred to as ‘Bharat Kumar’, died at the age of 87. According to ANI, he passed away at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. While reacting to his death, filmmaker Ashoke Pandit said, “The legendary Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, our inspiration and the ‘lion’ of the Indian film industry, Manoj Kumar Ji is no more…It is a great loss to the industry and the entire industry will miss him…”

Manoj Kumar was born as Harikrishan Giri Goswami. He marked his Bollywood debut with the film Fashion Brand in the year 1957. However, he achieved fame only after the release of Kaanch Ki Gudiya in 1961. He then delivered hit films like Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Upkar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Kranti and many more. He was best known for his patriotic roles. In the film Shaheed, Manoj Kumar played the character of Bhagat Singh that brought him immense fame. His career spanned over 40 years and he proved his mettle with back-to-back successes.

Manoj Kumar won several accolades for his contribution to the world of cinema. In the year 1992, he was felicitated with Padma Shri – the fourth highest civilian award in India. Later, in 2015, Manoj Kumar received Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

With the news of his demise making headlines, fans are deeply mourning the loss. The details of his last rites haven’t been revealed yet. According to reports, Manoj Kumar died due to cardiogenic shock caused by acute myocardial infarction, a severe heart attack. As per reports, the actor was admitted to the hospital on February 21, 2025 as he was battling decompensated liver cirrhosis. His condition worsened and he breathed his last on April 4.
