The Great One is so far, seemingly, The Only One, when it comes to celebrities who will attend the premiere of the Melania Trump documentary, Melania. That’s right Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky is very keen on seeing Brett Ratner‘s feature doc about the first lady that will screen at the newly renamed Trump Kennedy Center, that’s according to Donald Trump himself.
Speaking to a gaggle of reporters on Air Force One, the president confirmed The Hollywood Reporter‘s report from last month that Melania was set to premiere at the Kennedy Center, although it was unclear when the screening would take place. Trump also didn’t confirm his own attendance at the premiere (not necessarily a given as the president and the first lady are rarely seen together outside of official functions).
Asked by a journalist if he’d seen the film, the president replied with his usual rambling, unsubstantiated bluff and bluster, “I’ve seen pieces of it. It’s incredible, I tell you. I think it’s gonna do… you know, she did a book and the book was a big number one bestseller, and this is a movie. It seems to be captivating a lot of people’s attention.”
He continued, “It’s a very hard ticket [to get], I can tell you. Everybody, Wayne Gretzky and his wife, Janet, beautiful wife, great wife. They said last night, ‘gee, I want to go to.’ A lot of [people], everybody wants tickets to [it].”
Melania was made with Melania Trump’s participation and follows her during the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration. The doc is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video on Jan. 30, after the streamer reportedly paid $40 million to license the film. Melania will later be accompanied by a three-part docuseries, with a streaming run on Prime Video to follow.
As well as its hefty price tag, the doc has garnered a great deal of attention as it serves as the return for filmmaker Ratner, who became something of a pariah in Hollywood following a series of damaging #MeToo allegations. In 2017, six women accused Ratner of sexual misconduct as part of a Los Angeles Times report. Ratner denied the allegations but he was dropped by his agency and has not made a film since. Though he has risen to prominence once more during the second Trump administration and is looking to make his big studio return with another Rush Hour film.
