Tori Spelling snapped back at shamers who she said misunderstood a joke she made about her young son giving her a massage in exchange for an allowance.
On Monday’s episode of her misSpelling podcast, the actress, 51, explained what she said really happened.
‘So on my (Instagram) Stories recently, I posted what I thought was a very cute photo of my seven-year-old son Beau, pretending being the keyword, pretending to give me a massage,’ the Beverly Hills 90210 alum said.
‘And then I said he wanted to make money for an allowance, and I thought this was a good way to start. Beats chores, something like that. I don’t know. Solid plan,’ she explained.
Spelling the revealed she had taken the boy to a massage parlor with her, where he asked if he could help work on her back.
In the photos, the actress appeared nude with her lower body covered by a sheet.

‘So [the massage therapist] took that one picture of Beau pretending to give me a massage,’ she said, adding, ‘And I just think it’s wild. It’s wild the stuff that you can put out there that they change the narrative on so hardcore.’
The podcaster, who shares Beau and his four older siblings with ex-husband Dean McDermott, claimed she was surprised when the snap ‘exploded’ in the press — even though one of her friends told her sharing the photo was not a good idea.
‘I mean, as soon as I put it up, one of my best guy friends, he DM’d me and he was like, “That’s not a good look,” And I’m like, “I know. I like joking,”‘ the Mistle-tones actress admitted.
‘I’m like, “I know. He was getting all the wrong spots. Like, you should have started on the feet.”‘ But he said, he’s like, “Oh my god. ‘
‘I said, “Why? It’s a cute photo. Everyone knows it’s not real. Clearly, we are not at home. I’m not making him do chores,”‘ Spelling said of her reaction, adding, ‘Clearly, I’m at a massage parlor.’
The friend turned out to be correct and damning comments ranging from ‘That’s weird. Just weird and wrong,’ to ‘Wtf’ to ‘disturbing’ and ‘beyond inappropriate,’ were quickly posted on social media.
Spelling said after the criticism started coming in, she checked with a mom friend who agreed the post seemed ‘normal’ to her.
‘I think it’s interesting though, that, I don’t know, on social media, why is it like comedians can post anything?’ Spelling asked, drawing attention to what she saw as a double standard.

Spelling argued she was being held to a higher standard. ‘Comedians that have families, kids, they can post anything and people are like, “They are kidding. Another pal tried to use humor to try to alleviate the situation.
‘And then I had another friend that was like, “Well, good news is you’re relevant. You’re in the press.”‘
The former reality star added that ‘mom guilt’ makes it difficult to contend with the critics.
‘I don’t need people shaming me, thinking I’m forcing my kids to massage me,’ she told her listeners.
