Tori Spelling admitted that she doesn’t “drink water,” likening herself to a cactus in Tuesday’s episode of her “misSPELLING” podcast.
“I know I have issues with liquids,” she told listeners. “And this is going like a lifetime back.”
Spelling acknowledged that it’s a “crazy” and “weird” habit, calling herself an “anomaly.”
“When I say I don’t drink water, I don’t drink water,” she continued. “How I’m still living, no one knows. I’m like a cacti, you just water me once in a while and I somehow survive.”
The reality TV star, 51, took it one step further, claiming she has an “aversion” to the life-sustaining liquid.
Given her dislike for regular water, Spelling typically drinks ginger ale and Diet Dr. Pepper.
“They are my jam,” she said. “At any given time, if you see me, you know what I’m going through because if I am with a Diet Dr. Pepper [then] I am thriving. Like things are going and I’m just kicking butt.”
“If I have a ginger ale in hand… things are stressful,” she added.
However, she has been “trying” to drink coconut water, which she actually “enjoys the taste” of.
The “90210” star explained that she typically gravitates toward the canned beverages because she has this “crazy, irrational fear of handed over liquids from other people” — which was recently brought back to the forefront after ex Dean McDermott tried to give her a glass of ginger ale.
Her apprehension dates back to her “childhood” when her mother, Candy Spelling, would mix her medication with Coca-Cola syrup, which settled her stomach.
“She would do it and I would always look at her weird,” Tori recalled. “I was sussing out what she was giving to me and why she was giving it to me.
Once she was “old enough to swallow pills,” Tori then grew suspicious of what her mom gave her to wash them down — typically “juice or water.”
“I would say, ‘What’d you put in here? Like, what are you giving me?’ And she would say the same thing, ‘What, you think I’m trying to poison you?’”
Tori said her apprehension about accepting liquids from others likely “ties into [her] fear of water.”
“I just like to say, ‘I hate water,’ or ‘I have an allergy to water,’” she said of when people question her. “I don’t know what it is.”
The reality TV star has tried everything — such as a squeeze of lemon or flavoring packets — to get herself to drink more water — but nothing does the trick.
“It goes into my mouth, you guys, and instantly repulses me,” she said, noting that she feels “instantly nauseous” when she is forced to take a few sips.
“I can guzzle, like, a glass of wine in, like, two seconds. No problem,” she joked. “But I take a few sips of water and swallow gently, and all of a sudden, I’m like, ‘I want to puke.’”
However, Tori — who shares children Liam, 17, Stella, 16, Hattie, 13, Finn, 12, and Beau, 8 with McDermott — noted that the “only time” she did drink water was during her pregnancies.
“Because you have to hydrate the baby growing in you,” she explained. “In my mind, I was like, ‘I’m drinking for them, not myself.’ So I would always have a glass of water in hand with lemon in it — usually sparkling but even flat sometimes.”
