Monique Blackwell has spoken out about the apprehended domestic violence order police took out against her ex-husband, Nova FM breakfast host Tim Blackwell.
Magistrate Alexander Mijovich granted an interim ADVO last Wednesday when the matter was brought before Newtown Local Court.
Monique, 45, a yoga instructor who shares three children with Blackwell, told the Daily Mail she did not ask police to apply for a restraining order against her former spouse, but also did not oppose it.
It follows incorrect reporting by some outlets, including Mumbrella, that suggested Monique had taken out the order herself, when in fact the application was from a Constable Goldstein on her behalf.
‘I didn’t request it. But it wasn’t against my wishes,’ she said in a brief statement on Friday.
According to court documents seen by Daily Mail, the conditions of the ADVO prevent Blackwell, 44, from assaulting, harassing, threatening or intimidating Monique.

He is also not permitted to stalk his former wife, or ‘intentionally or recklessly destroy or damage any property or harm an animal that belongs to or is in the possession of Monique Bavonia Blackwell’.
The Daily Mail does not suggest Blackwell is alleged to have done any of these things, only that they are the standard conditions of an ADVO.
The matter will next be before the court on April 15.
When contacted for comment last week, Blackwell’s lawyer, Paul McGirr of McGirr & Associates, told the Mail: ‘All I can say is that it will be vigorously defended.
‘I’m not going to comment on the specifics except to say the matter will be vigorously defended and it appears that the AVO is being used as a weapon as opposed to a shield.
‘There is certainly not even any violence being alleged against him and it’s an extremely weak application.
‘I’ve told Mr Blackwell to keep doing what he’s doing and focus on his work and I’ll handle the rest.
‘Certainly, as apprehended violence matters go, I consider this to be a very weak application and it appears there are [family matters] in the background.’

Hours after the interim ADVO was granted, Blackwell – who was recently promoted from Nova’s national drive shift to Sydney breakfast – was spotted partying with the likes of Kate Ritchie and Abbie Chatfield while attending a Keli Holiday concert.
Blackwell did not appear to have a care in the world as he arrived for a Nova Red Room gig at Selina’s in Coogee, Sydney, with his younger girlfriend Lizzie Baxter, a former Fitzy and Wippa producer.
Monique confirmed via Instagram in December 2023 that she had split from Blackwell, the father of her three children, Bo, 12, Alfie, nine, and Artie, six.
‘Not all good things end, but this has,’ she captioned a gallery of photos of herself with Blackwell in happier times.
‘Thank you in advance for your messages of love, support and sadness at the news that Tim and I are no longer together.’
‘Our babes are forever supported by Tim and I’s love for them. And our friendship is a source of strength for our family always, as we raise our children as best friends.’
Blackwell remained silent on Instagram for over a week after his wife’s announcement. He did not address his marriage split directly until September 2024.

He opened up about his separation and co-parenting on his podcast, Introducing with Tim Blackwell, during a conversation with singer Missy Higgins.
The radio host admitted he felt like a failure as a parent when his marriage to Monique ended – but stressed their story wasn’t over yet.
‘Especially as co-parents, we’re still in the relationship. It just looks different. I think we’re working harder on the relationship we don’t have anymore,’ he said.
Blackwell and Monique first met in 2002 after he moved to Perth to launch Nova 93.7’s drive show.
‘It’s the cheesiest radio-nerd story ever – one of the biggest days for my career and certainly the biggest day of my love life,’ he told Stellar magazine in 2018.
‘I had all the big bosses in town, all the news media there. I was shaking and absolutely s***ting myself but also exhilarated at the same time.’
‘Once all that was over, we went downstairs and had this huge launch party and Monique was a part of the promotions team at the time there,’ he added.
‘She came over and I got the courage to say, “I’m new to Perth and I’d love to take you out to coffee or something.”‘
Following his marriage split, Blackwell confirmed his relationship with Baxter last year.
