Amazon MGM Studios is in development on a biopic about Tigers Woods, with Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground banner in talks to produce.
The studio picked up the film rights to Kevin Cook’s book, The Tiger Slam, and King Richard director Reinaldo Marcus Green is in talks to helm the film adaptation, with Winkler Films also producing.
Cook, a former Sports Illustrated senior editor and editor in chief of Golf Magazine, in The Tiger Slam offers an inside look at the early streak of victories that left Woods far ahead of his rivals on the pro golf tour. The book includes accounts from Wood’s caddie, his coach, opponents and supporters.
After reaching the pinnacle of his sport, however, Woods faced a deep fall from grace caused by a maelstrom of grief over the death of his father, Earl Woods, sex addiction and the physical toll from pushing his body beyond its limits on the golf course.
That rise and fall has been followed by another attempted return to the pro golf tour by Woods, who continues to be held back by persistent injuries and surgeries.
An earlier book by Cook, Tommy’s Honor, about old Tom Morris and young Tom Morris, considered the founding father and son of golf, had a film adaptation that won Scotland’s BAFTA as the best feature film of 2016.
Cook is represented by CAA and David Halpern at David Halpern Literary Management. The Tiger Slam was published by Avid Reader Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
