Indian movies have a huge fan following worldwide. We have so many amazing movies being made in Bollywood and even in the South. The songs, actors, grandeur sets and everything about our movies is loved. We have seen so many recent movies that have worked well and the box office numbers have been brilliant. Pushpa 2 is currently ruling hearts in India and everyone is going crazy behind this movie. At the same time, there is Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja which is ruling the markets in China. There are many movies from India that have ruled the markets in China.

Films like Dangal, RRR, Secret Superstar and Andhadhun have earned well in China. But, there is one film whose record they could not break. A small budget crime-thriller released 54 years ago won hearts in China. The movie starred Jeetendra and Asha Parekh and it did well in India. But, it was loved in China and earned some good money.

It released there in 1979, becoming the highest-grossing foreign film in China. The film reportedly earned over Rs 353 million in Asia, mostly in China. We are talking about Carawan which released in China eight years after its release in India.

It sold Rs 8.8 crore worth of tickets, making it the highest-grossing foreign film in China. The movies became very popular and hence, it re-released many times in China. The film attracted a total audience of 30 crore viewers. This was the highest for any Indian film in a single country.

Jeetendra’s movie surpassed the records of Sholay in India. It also left behind Awara in the Soviet Union to achieve this milestone. If we talk about the recent movies, Dangal is the biggest Indian hit overseas. It earned 238 million dollars collection from China alone. It sold 43.1 million tickets in China but it is still less than Carawan.

RRR made history in the US and Japan as it earned 20 million dollars from these regions combined. But, only 3 million people watched the film in these countries. Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule is breaking records worldwide. It sold 60 million tickets in India and 10 million overseas. However, it failed to break Carawan‘s record.
