Bollywood actresses are known for their fearless opinions. One such diva revealed that she was banned in Bollywood because she used to speak her mind. Her bold stance has definitely come at a cost. Can you guess who it is?
Well, we are talking about Swara Bhaskar who revealed that her political views have led to her being blacklisted by the film industry. Swara was seen in films like Nil Battey Sannata, Anaarkali of Aarah and Tanu Weds Manu.
During an interview with BBC, she shared her thoughts on challenges that she faced due to her take on political issues. She said, ‘I have been blacklisted for the kind of political opinions that I have. There’s no point denying that now. It’s so obvious. But I’m not very bitter about it. I chose a path and I knew there would be a price to pay’.
The actress even confessed that being blacklisted is painful, but not entirely surprising. She added saying, ‘It feels bad. I loved my work and I still love it. I was a very competent actor, hopefully, I still will be. So that part hurts, but it’s fine as I understand the context’. She continued saying, ‘It’s not solely on them. We live in a time, in a country where the dominant forces and those in power have chosen to punish people for being dissenting in their opinions. They have chosen to criminalise dissent and paint dissent as anti-national and a security threat to the country’. She concluded saying, ‘I’m not the only one being punished… my friends are in jail, there are other actors who have been harassed in different ways’.
Swara who is quite active on the social media shared her thoughts on pressing political and social issues in India. She debuted with a supporting role in the 2009 drama Madholal Keep Walking. She was later seen in Jahaan Chaar Yaar in 2022. She will be seen next in Mrs Falani.
